Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

You think you have it bad in Canada? I actually had to open my air vent at one point because it got too warm in the cockpit. I don't know how much more of this I can take!

Get your frozen ass down here and fly with us.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well, all the above 0 weather has made the snow settle to a point where I can get the plane out and on the snow. Went for a flight, air was cool and thick, and she climbed like a homesick angel. :)

Except don't need drainage this year.

Still lots of stones to rake (like Gravelly Valley), and south 1/3 dusty. Need some rain.

We tried to escape the cold with a trip to the Dirty Devil airstrip in southern Utah, but it was cold down there, too. Still a fun flight, though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went for a little flight today. I recently watched the Leaning webinar Mike Bush did with EAA so I tried the method he suggests for fixed pitch planes. I'm going to have to try it again to verify the results: 102mph cruise and ~10 gallons of mogas burned in 2.9 hours. I almost don't believe it myself.

Had to deal with a little weather on the way home.

Finally flew over to Paradise Flat today. Beautiful flight. I'm not a movie maker so don't be too hard on me.

Took some overheads for the organizers of the annual ice fishing extravaganza. Instant headache when shooting out the open windows today. Something about hanging out in the breeze below zero..brrr... and then the chopper crew took their doors off and were looking way colder! Must have been dressed for it...

Technically it's on state park land, and it's X'd so I can't recommend anyone land there. :D

It would be a great opportunity for California to take after Idaho and have a nice fly in area where pilots could enjoy a remote area with little impact on the environment getting to and from. But I imagine a lot of city pilots would pile it up over there so...

So where all the people are scattered about, are those all holes drilled in the ice?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yes, they drill about 12-15 thousand holes the night before within the square. (impressive operation to watch) Then when it starts in the morning, (10am-3 pm) the contestants chop out whatever ice reformed during the night in their chosen hole. (around $100K in prizes)
