Yeah, there is that. No fun detailing your plane when your fingers are turning blue.

I'm on my way to Mexico right now. You should tag along. ;-)

Where did you fly today?

If you recall, my GoPro now looks like this:
Image

It's an ongoing experiment that unfortunately makes the simple cockpit video recording a chore. The lens adjustment is finicky. I need a second stock one. Nice day yesterday. Not the shortest landing but smoothness impresses the front row more (except at Llano and Valdez.) 8)

The video quality is excellent. So good that it slowed my work computer down trying to play it in HQ. How much did the rig cost to build?(minus the go pro)

Re: Where did you fly today?

I took a waitress from our local airport café flying yesterday, just a local flight checking out the local sights. I've known her since she was a kid and she's been flying with me several times before, but it's been a while. I made a nice wheel landing when we got back and she complimented me on how smooth it was. I had to laugh when she said it was sure better than the landing I made the last time she went flying with me (about 6 or 7 years ago). :P

I'm almost embarrassed to say.

Ribcage: $249
Tamron lens: $89 (pretty cheap for a lens actually)

So, a little under $350, but it's not the primary reason I did the mod. If you recall, I've shot several scenes with SLR lenses. The costs pile up with addition of all the other gear used to get good shots like crane, slider, shoulder rig, etc. The mod is not really worth it unless you are integrating it into your greater shooting plan. It's nice though that I can still use it for cockpit shots.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a couple hours before I had to head to work today. Beautiful weather, so went for a quick flight south.

"Hole in the rock" Can't remember how big the party was, but this is where a group of crazy Mormon settlers spent a couple months cutting rock and filling to make a passage down to the Colorado river. And yes, the real thing looks worse than the picture #-o

Can't complain about the new job yet. Started off today at the office in a great way! I did confirm, my 75-90 minute drive to work can be flown in 17 minutes. Grrrr. Flew over the burned Black Forest, my house, and my hangar.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Us Texans suck at being an Eskimo. If you ever see one of us post a picture with snow, it's either because the world is coming to an end, or we got lost. Since the beginning of the year we've had almost solid IFR and LIFR. Finally today it lifted and the skies filled with planes. I blasted over to Llano to eat Mesquite Fired Pizza and talk about the Texas STOL Roundup with our Airboss Jimmy Gist. On the way back I had to land the waterfall. This is a Texan's idea of winter.

BTW, this will be one of the planned Big Tire Flyout destinations for Sunday as part of the Texas STOL Roundup.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Too much work to go anywhere far lately, but I went up after work this week to warm up the oil and shoot some landings. This was the view turning onto a left crosswind at 0S9, Jefferson County. The view is part of what makes living here so great. The other benefits include only living 15 minutes from the airport and the smooth air this cool marine environment provides. Ahhhhhhh!

Hey Hotrod180, was that Chris's daughter you took for a ride, or another waitress at the café?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Not backcountry, but still one of the most memorable days of flying I've ever had. I've been communicating online with a Yak pilot in San Diego who liked my videos. I had never met him in person, but I told him I was going to show up some day and shamelessly beg for a ride. That day came yesterday, and I brought my dad along with me. He was nice enough to arrange a two-ship formation flight for us and we had a GREAT time.

After that, a local Cub pilot who I had also never met was nice enough to take my dad for a flight around San Diego and up the coast. It was an incredible day for both of us, thanks to the kindness of some really generous fellow aviators.

Darin,
As soon as I saw you posted something I knew what it was going to be after seeing what was on FB. Def looks like a blast! You know, it doesn't always have to be about backcountry. I think the bigger thing is everyone on this sites love of aviation! And we envy you a little for these pics
