Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

We flew to Columbia, CA for lunch today where the fuel is only $3.72 a gallon. This is by far the cheapest fuel I've put in the 170 since I bought the plane in 2010. I hope these prices keep dropping and stay low for a while!

Has a grass strip too. Friendly little post gold rush town. The El Jardin restaurant has the best burritos!

O22 has always been my choice for fuel on the Westside of the Sierras! Glad to see the price. Be careful of the firefighters during fire season, lots of tanker ops.

A bunch of us got together but I didn't get out the camera until at CrazivanLand™.

Before I go on, let me ask if anyone else has a problem with their MGL v10 radio. I can hear the entire state of Ohio crystal clear unless I'm over 3400 RPM, which is hard to do in a Rotax. It is worthless at higher RPMs. In fact it is just noisy. If I unplug the mic jack the noise goes away. If I cover my mic with my hand it goes away. You can tell me off-line as to not pollute the pure, whimsical thread we have going here...

It can climb. I'm starting to like it a little. I'm still trying to figure things out, but kinks are getting worked out.

Ya. It runs pretty good. Here's an 80 ft takeoff roll.

Sounds pretty wicked too.

Holy cow! It sounds great! Other than the motor, what other changes did you make from the last one?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went with a few other guys from our EAA chapter to Grawunder Field/06R in Belville, TX to take apart this weird little experimental, the Honey Bee. Evidently it's one of 2 still in existence, and the build quality was impressive. I'm 5'11" and my knees were crammed against the dash, very tiny plane. We'll clean and reassemble it as a static display for a museum in Wharton, TX.

It has a few more lightweight gadgets I guess but by and large it's just lighter with more thrust. It has a lot of carbon fiber nick-nacks in it. After much experimenting the wing is a mostly stock S7 wing, pre 2012 S7 aileron with post 2012 tanks ribs, etc. There is a huge cargo area and minor changes to windows. Seeley built me landing gear. The geometry is better for landing short. We experimented with air shocks but decided to get it in the air with bungees for now.

They keep getting better. My powerplant engineer Jeremy is the one to watch. He is going to build one even lighter and more ridiculous. I'll start that rumor now anyway.

I like that lil Honey Bee thing.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Good weekend of flying for me. Flew the cherokee for some hood training. Flew in an rv for some aerobatics. Flew in the Stinson low over the river. Rescued a stranded pilot at the airport last night. And did some instrument panel fabrication for the 182. A full weekend of airplane related fun.

Flew down to Oaxaca for a week at the beach. It was pretty. Here's a shot as we were leaving and flew directly over the bay we had been staying at.

That looks like a nice spot to hang out.
I'm still planning on heading down to Zih towards the end of the month.

I have to go to the US the 23rd - March 1st. I suppose that's when you'll be in Zihuatanejo?
