Yer livin' the dream, Cam! We're going to have to start a new thread: "What Did Cam Fly Today?" :D

You have also provided me with some very important information. "Training adaptability" has officially been added to my lexicon. "Of course we need this other airplane, my lovely bride. You wouldn't want me to fall behind on my training adaptability, would you?" =D>

Here are a couple screen caps from the video I shot yesterday.

My high island in a sea of clouds.

Steeper than it looks, but pretty smooth.

Short final. The rocks in the foreground were about 3' tall.

Some pretty cool views!

This picture summed up the morning pretty well, I thought.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Spent all day yesterday gluing vortex generators. Tried em out today with a little airwork (Initial reaction is good. Was already slow with the Sportsman and WingX. A bit slower still and seemingly more responsive when slow now. ASI hits the lower peg (<40 mph indicated).

Then flew a loop and landed three places. Last one before home was 3SGS, home of the High Sierra fly in. Still a little lake there. I think my 182 is telling me to get her back on floats for the season!

Followed the Carson River back home.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Cam Tom 12,

So many little moves with so many body parts to make nothing happen. I caught a ride in Vietnam on a CH-47 Chinook. The AC let me come up front and fly the thing a bit. I couldn't believe you had to unlock the collective to move it and that there was no need to move it in a hover. The back end just dynamically wanders up and down to dampen any attempt for the thing to try to climb or descend.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Family and I flew to Ranger Creek, WA (21W) and met my Dad for a picnic lunch. He flew from Eastsound, WA (ORS) Great flight and a great spot to meet up. Neither of us had flown in there before. Took a small hike down the river, and through the woods a bit. Nice place and close to home. Great weather and a nice smooth flight.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I have an off grid solar power project at a remote cabin that is a 75 miles drive from my place. The last 25 miles a twisty 2 lane road with lots of blind curves, and it's open range, for real. I've seen several wrecks over the years on that stretch, and making it worse is it's the kind of road that is a blast on a motorcycle, which is a real bad combination, open range and motorcycles going fast

But, of course, I've been flying back and forth, only 38 miles that way, plus lots of fun places along the way. I have a perfect strip of ground, parallel to the road, right along the fence. At least until the grass gets too tall or he moves his cattle in there. No cell phone coverage back there, yesterday I had make a call for some tech assistance to a buddy in Arizona, and I had to fly 20 miles before getting a decent signal, and then find a place to land and then fly back to the job site. All part of the job =D>

Looks like a great place. :D

I've not been there yet. I was wondering when the Cascade Mountain strips would be open, I thought it was June 1st but with essentially no winter last year I bet the conditions were good. I like Packwood and Tieton, and Ranger is in the same neighborhood. Was it hard to get into?

We had great weather this weekend. No place prettier than the Washington Cascades on a sunny spring day.

I was at Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens with the GF, but on the Gold Wing. Great weekend for riding or flying.

It was a great weekend for the Cascades. I was wondering if anyone would catch the dates... :D Yes, you're right, most strips are June 1st for the open date(this one was) We weren't going to go because of this, but I did get a hold of the manager (Paul Wolf) on the the phone the day prior and said they had performed the pre-season maintenance and the strip was good to go. Gave us permission to go in a day early. He appreciated the call.

Strip was in good shape. We found it fairly easy to get into, the canyon does narrow up a bit where the airstrip is, but enough room to overfly, makes some turns and come in either direction the wind favors. Not a problem slowed up to "canyon speed" with some flaps on.

There's a campgound directly across midfield for rv'ers, and its a large campground. I'll bet in the prime summer months it will be very busy with lots of people, probably quite a bit busier than Tieton. If you are looking for a secluded type place to camp, this is probably not it, but a nice place.

Yes, a 1980 207. IO550, sportsman stol, vg's. Basic utility interior. He's usuall by himself and makes for a great camping plane. If a place doesn't have firewood, he usually brings it, along with a portable shower, and other misc. "essential" items. :D

Re: Where did you fly today?

Man, all these great recent pics are killing me! I've had nothing but work the last few months, it seems. I've got three more of these this month, then down to Johnson Creek in the 185 for some R&R!!

Image

Do you think I can log some cross country on this SLC-CDG leg?
