I flew up there this last week. It was hotter than hell! But the wild horses where just on the other side of the lake. So in hind site it was a pretty epic trip.
You can see the water level is only at 25*/.

Where did you fly today?

I work on the Rez in Owyhee Nevada. It has been raining non-stop up there and all the reservoirs are full and the creeks booming.

Re: Where did you fly today?

DBI: Indeed, the WX in Idaho has been super good the last several days, no fire smoke (yet)! Right after that recent cold front departed, was some of the clearest skies ever, 100 miles no sweat.

I had heard all the media buzz about the two full moons in July, called a blue moon, so on the right day I flew out to Copper Basin (highest strip, on the charts anyway, in Idaho). I set up camp, made dinner, and waited for nightfall. What a rip off, I waited and waited, but I never did see the other moon  But I did take note for the first time that my plane/tent combo is sorta color matched, like being complimented by a women on your choice of clothing, when really it was all you had clean.

You can see a few of the numerous cowpies on the strip, so next morning when the urge struck me, I figured it was payback time, and made one of my own right on one of their trails. Payback time

Stopped by the airplane display day at Frazier Lake (1C9) which occurs on the first Saturday of the month. Love the grass strip!

Courierguy that is a very nice picture of your plane and tent all set up in the moonlight. It was also very gracious of you to NOT post pics of assorted trail pies.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nootka Island (Calvin Falls), then Nimpkish Lake.

Dropped in at Calvin Falls on Saturday. Couple of kayakers said another yellow taildragger was there just when they were coming ashore a few hours earlier. I landed about an hour after high tide so didn't see any tracks.

BTW, they were thirsting for company, having had only themselves to talk to the past 3 weeks. I'd heard a rumor that the Nootka Island trail was closed due to aggressive cougar activity, so maybe that was why the crowd had thinned out.

Thought of camping there for the night with them, but headed another half hour to Nimpkish Lake instead of worrying about the higher tide at 1:30 am.

Cruised by the south end of Hornby Island on the way back and saw a red-white three-bladed Beaver and yellow 172 parked on the old Olsen farm at the south end. We used to land there years ago but haven't seen anyone there for a while. Might be a future flyout - anybody know the PPR codes?

Along with Rowena's, another "doghouse 'r us" restaurant to sooth a flying partner at the end of their rope is "Final Approach" at Qualicum Airport. All was forgiven.

That's me pitching rocks and sticks off the bar before my takeoff run. Heavy load, wanted a little more room.

Wife caught some pictures as we we're coming back from our camping trip. She was too scared to snap any on our landing going up there.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew in to Sherman Meadows today. It's an abandoned forestry strip that I'd an hr flight for me. Just getting into the Rockies and you drop in. Beautiful strip that's about 4000' long. One way in one way out.

While we were there STARS came in to pick up a girl that had been bucked off a horse.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nice to have all that green grass to keep the dust down - and pretty tall grass for the tiny tires on the 180. Sorry, as an ex-ABW guy you must feel the same. Have you had wet summer up there?

We are dry at home. But it has rained in the mountains. The 8.50s do feel tiny. I was going to buy the used 29s that were posted here and then my wife told me to just buy new 31s. I'll do that in the spring when I take my skis off. Until then I'll make due with the 8.50s.
Has it been wet over your ways?
