Where did you fly today?
Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Flew back from Panama City Beach today. Fought a headwind at all altitudes on the way back. Burned lots of fuel to make decent time.
Hangar chores for this week are wiring my rear ICS plugs, changing the oil, finishing prepping my 100 gal fuel tank/trailer for mogas, and more local pattern work!

Those are great pictures. No beach landings allowed around here...
Flew up to VT this weekend for some mountain biking in Burke. Landed at KCDA, got a cheap cab riding into Burke with the bikes stuffed in the back. Two good days of excellent riding, good beer, good food. Landed at the home base, and plane wouldn't restart. Dead battery. Guess the 172 wants me to throw some more money at it.

mnewb1,
Nice video "flying back to Grand Haven." Here is a suggestion to make all landings a non-event. Take your hand off the yoke while flying cross country straight and level. Use the rudder only to maintain longitudinal alignment with a distant target. When you get lined up on final, again take your hand off the yoke and use rudder only to direct your course to the numbers.
Your airplane has a bungee connect between ailerons and rudder, but longitudinal alignment in any airplane is best controlled with rudder only. This is because adverse yaw when using the ailerons, to do longitudinal alignment, causes wing wagging and nose wandering. This is true even when rudder is perfectly coordinated. Ailerons cause major changes in configuration. Rudder can be used for fine tuning longitudinal alignment.
Try using rudder only a bit. I guarantee you will like it.
Best regards,

No...mine is making metal so we are waiting for the overhauled engine. Meanwhile, flying a friend's 172.

Well...I did buy it with a timed out engine, we made it to something like 2700 hours...so I can't really complain.
But as everybody here likely knows...it costs less to buy the airplane up front with the overhauls already done...
I was broke and wanting to fly though.
Which ends up describing my continuing state, since I have ended up having to nickle and dime small stuff.
However, I try to fix things right when we do something, so the plane just gets better and better.
In the meantime, it has been good for me to put in some time in a C plane. It's starting to make more sense to me. Feels really different from mine, but pretty similar capabilities, just accomplishes it differently with that monster wing hanging out there.
