Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Flew out to the annual Lake Minchumina rock skipping contest yesterday. (PAMH / MHM). Great time and great hospitality as always. The 'closed' crosswind runway is recently mowed and in fabulous shape. It's just advised not to depart off of it to the west, as you can't see the activity on the primary N/S runway.

Was out on the pontoon for a Sunday evening cruise with Debbie and the hound, when the weather said it was perfect to go fly... (last night's flight was just a hoot. Went and visited my old "seaway"... 8)

realization sets in that it's flying weather...

Always enjoy the pics BRD, your living the dream [emoji1303]

We've been super busy spraying with all the rain lately, which is great! Been out scouting in the wagon some, but not nearly enough haha.

No great shots flying the work plane, but get to fly in really pretty country sometimes. Farmers keep planting wind turbine seeds around here, wish they'd stop [emoji12]

This is where I flew for the eclipse a week ago. I posted my eclipse stuff elsewhere. This is just the airplane stuff. The strip is 49OR in central Oregon. They have three small A-Frame cabins and an apartment in the hangar they rent. A really nice place to fly in to.

This is looking north towards the main hangar and the A-Frames. You can see some of the planes parked along the south side of the dirt runway.

Here's a group of us parked around a cleared circle like a modern day version of circling the wagons.

Great pics thanks for sharing!

I have noticed that strip in years gone by because it is close to the Fossil Beds.

I wonder if they would let me fly in and ride my mountain bike? Can a person stay overnight?

Smokey Labor Day weekend here! Got the 48 Ford running. It had been a couple years since I last fired it up. A new fuel pump, clean plugs, fresh gas (and seafoam) got it going again. Flathead 6 is about as easy an engine as there is to wrench on.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Fairly low time pilot. Never flown into a "backcountry" airport before, and was excited to fly into Kern Valley for the first time last weekend. Always wanted to camp under an airplane! So I took my friend in the 150 and headed on our way! We were the only ones flying in the whole time, and had the whole camp site to ourselves. Looking for more places to go camping that the 150 is capable of going!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took my Uncle John (a poet) for a flight yesterday to look at the island on Gilbert lake where the family spent their summers growing up.

Here's what he wrote and sent me today:

Hi Brad and Debbie,

Really, really enjoyed the day with you two and the crew yesterday. And the ride back along north shore Mille Lacs was a great way to end the day. We took every alternate route we could find. All of this just expansion of the unexpected blessing of the Lord. No wonder the Psalmist lapsed into superlatives in his hunt for words.

What Makes a Poem

A poem needs to find
otherwise ways of saying
what first comes to mind,
ways that allow invention,
new adjectives that take
the subject by the hand
and lead it to a place
it never thought was there,
a place where light slants in
so cleverly one sees
inside as well as out.
The best poems I think
are ones on quiet water,
a narrow stream that leads
through mirrored pools,
never quite to the point,
with plenty of asides,
those little comments
which it turns out
are the real poem.

John Thornberg

So on behalf of all of us here, thanks again.

Uncle John and crew

Re: Where did you fly today?

We are going to the Texas STOL round up and you will find a few shots from the trip. We started in Cadiz, OH and our first stop was Carthage, TX. We made it to Boerne, TX not without a challenge.

Those Monarch tanks we put in a few years ago worked great. We were in the air for 6 hours before our first stop.
