Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

BRD:

I have to ask. Your pictures have the most amazing colors and clarity. Are those coming straight from the camera or are you working on them somehow. If straight from the camera, what kind of camera.

Great shots, thanks!! L

Re: Where did you fly today?

I'm using several different cameras: iPhone6s, Sony NEX-5, Canon 60D, Canon 7D (with 24-105 L lens) and Canon 1D (with 70-200 L). I shoot in RAW as much as I can and then edit good ones in Photoshop CS6. Zane fusses about it and he's right I probably mess with them too much. I often use the Shadow and Highlight tool to try and bring out more detail from the RAW image (there's often a lot more to see in the image when you do that), then Unsharp Mask (rarely with the 1D though - wrecks the image) and sometimes Lab color before converting back to Adobe RGB. (I try and stay away from sRGB).
Thanks!
Brad

(this shot for instance would lose a lot of river detail in the dark without the shadow/highlight tool. The setting sun really only bringing the tree tops out)

The best I could do with my cell phone through the window. I wasn't tough enough to open the Cub door. A good start for the winter.

Nice Robert! One of the hunters I was talking to near Borah said there was THREE FEET of snow up there already.

Lovely sunrise flight from Milwaukee on Saturday morning to teach Aviation Merit Badge to the Boy Scouts in Central Wisconsin. Loved the sunrise colors (which the camera never sees the way I do) and ground fog!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks Brad!! Had a good camera person tell me that you were probably photo shopping. Guess I was hopping for a no effort solution, which as we know in life, usually doesn't lead us very far!

Sure looks good, thanks for all the posts!!

The Grand Tetons from the Idaho side, of course the best side.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I passed my commercial written exam Saturday morning so I had to celebrate with the 180 this weekend. Most of my flying over the last month has been in an Arrow, and I just put an 88" prop on the 180 so it's childhood joy just ripping around the local area. The foothills are nothing special, but always fun.

Pointed back towards KBDU yesterday:

Re: Where did you fly today?

Out to the desert with my buddy Merrick Turner. He’s working toward his private pilot certificate. Good times in the high desert Image

Then a quick trip in the cub to BODAD

And then a night XC with a student in the super sky chicken. Oh how I like flying over the mountains at night in a single engine aircraft

Awesome upnorth180. When I was younger I used to see Rusty Meyers Beech18s on Rainy Lake but not very many places use them any more.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I have an old (Flying?) magazine from the 80's or early 90's with an article about Rusty's use of Beech 18 seaplanes.
Very cool, seemed to make a lot sense.

The Beech is one of the finest floatplanes ever made. It's a shame that they are becoming rare. There are 7 in our area that work daily. I've been fortunate to fly all the common types up here, including Otters, Turbo Otters, Caravan's, etc. They are all good at what they do, but I'll take a Beech 9 times out of 10.
