Re: Where did you fly today?

Just broke a 100 hours in the new cub! Someone asked what it weighs... 1013 on 31's with the fuel pod. I have since added 35's, took out the heavy battery +12lbs to the good, tried a couple different props (115-118mph with a cruise prop) 90mph with the stump puller 86-36 Catto and burns about 5.5-5.8 in cruise. Been flying everywhere in it.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Wow, great fuel burn cruise numbers! And with 31's even, wow! I bet that she still jumps off the ground even with that cruise prop and with those miles per gallon numbers it would be hard to remove that prop unless its a pig. Very impressive!

Re: Where did you fly today?

How much fuel do you have with and without the pod?

Sweet looking airplane by the way!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finally managed to schedule the IA and knock out the annual on the 140. Did some simple pattern work to get back in the swing of things. She remembers how to fly! I need some more practice... also had a massive Antonov on the ramp parked behind me. Turns out they were shipping helicopters somewhere two at a time!

The dogleg approach to Vaughans (WN13) through the gap in the trees. This lets you get on the ground much sooner than trying to clear the tall trees at the south end of the runway.

There’s going to be a new house going up in that spot pretty soon, might need to start going in over the trees. That’s how I do it and I’ve never had to touch the brakes at Vaughan Ranch yet.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I made an impromptu trip to KIDA, then landed at Antelope Valley, U92. Tried to do Copper Basin, 0U2, but the clouds kept me from trying to get over the ridge. These were my favorite camping places as a kid...

Re: Where did you fly today?

This was just too sweet of a refueling stop to pass up, billard table flat and smooth, with plenty of room away from people and structures so no one got excited, or even noticed. This was something I did a LOT of during the early and mid '80's when going XC in my Pterodactyl ultralight. I think my longest flight was 1800 miles, making up my fuel stops as I went. I never, as in never, refueled at an airport, but did carry a sectional so I knew where they were at, so I could avoid them. I also never had any hassles doing this, as in Feds or local police, forget the usual off airport skills needed to do this safely, more or as important is knowing when and when not to do it in a politcially correct fashion, without calling undue attention to yourself. Circling overhead while you eyeball a site is a sure way to do that, as is a loud plane, scoping things out at a distance and then making a stealth approach works. I got expert at this, and I guess have not lost my touch. Truck stops, gotta love them. $3.19 a gallon I think it was. I won't say where it is so don't ask, publically anyway.

So that's what a SE210 harvester looks like, I was wondering! Good catch. Seriously, flying over that country and seeing the moonscape, combined with heavy industrial looking facilities now and then, had me thinking, wondering what they were for. Thanks to your post, I got up to speed on potash, it's uses, and so on, very interesting. Where I landed was smoother by far then my turf strip, and even smoother then any paved strips, just perfect.
