Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

In hindsight, things didn’t work out the way I intended for them to. I think I’m in this mess four years now. If you told me when I started my long gone thread that I’d be into this project for four years, all of my savings with no light in the end of the tunnel I’d tell you to pound sand and to be honest, I probably did. That I apologize for. Who knows, maybe if I would have listened I’d be flying right now in an airplane I built myself with a lot of new friends made along the way.

On the bright side, I have a job waiting for me at Delta as an ASM in base maintenance once things return to normal. That I am grateful for.

Ok enough with the thread drift. What flying adventures did you have today?

Re: Beaver to Kamloops

mustang wrote:I was running 1750 RPM and 27 inches so I leaned it out to peak and then added 75 degrees for the sake of the supercharger and all. That brought the fuel flow down to a mere 22 gallons per hour. Oh my! Glad I wasn't buying the fuel!

This Beaver gets into a tail-low condition in cruise so I pumped down a couple of clicks of flap and retrimmed to a more level attitude.

Haven't flown floats on Beavers but did a bit on wheels. Always found 1850/28" as the best setting, it helped get on the step for cruise without flap. With a heavy load (2500lbs + fuel on AG) had to leave power up at 2000/30" till we got a bit of the load out.

Nice day for flying. Put 1.3 on the meter looking for a friends lost dock. Lots of over water action, hence the pic of junior in the work suit. Didn’t find the dock but we saw a metric shit - ton of blacktail deer.

Two weeks ago the lakes were solid enough to drive and land on. Today not so much...

While not "today" I had the opportunity to reposition a Husky from Afton, Wyoming to the Midwest back in early March.

Goodyear wins! Amazing flying, and country that is apparently immune to the law of physics!

Re: Where did you fly today?

While we live in the relatively sparsely populated Carson Valley, Karen and I decided to get even more socially isolated, so we took the little Aerotrek A220 (which Karen calls "The Pocket Plane") along on a truck camping trip further north in Nevada.

Millions of locusts. I'm no bible thumper, but hey, virus pandemic, earthquakes, and now locust swarms in Nevada? Just sayin' . . .

Next stop: Denio. Base there for flying Sheldon Wildlife Refuge, gorge, etc. Not sure where next.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Drove past the Sod House VORTAC (SDO) today. Pulled over, jogged back a quarter mile, got through two barbed wire fences, and got some pics of the VORTAC's possible namesake. It's really more of a native rock house with sod and mud chinking and filler. You can see the VOR in the distance, on the other side of Nevada SR 140.
