Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Storms last night, this morning and then a three - four hour window before the next one hits. This last one is supposed to be nasty so I scooted at 11:30 this morning and zinged out for the airport. Beat the converted Caravan in that is based on Wilson Bay, but he was hot on my heals.

A pretty turbulent ride, but hey, better than possible big holes in the wings.

And back on the water. Forseable forecast looks benign.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew into Indian Creek for my first back country airplane camping experience. I've only logged a handful of BC landings so far (I'm pretty cautious and taking it slow), this was a great feeling.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Also just flew a 2400NM round trip for the second time, flying from Idaho to Illinois and back visiting family, it's turning into an annual trip. Flew Yellowstone on the way out this time, and hit some South Dakota tourist traps on the way back. If you ever stop in Mitchel SD, be sure to stop in at the Depot Grill... their jalapeno rasberry burger is off the charts.

It was pretty hazy most of the way, so not a ton of great pics. It's a whole lot of hand flying, about 20 hours round trip.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Not sure if they are still in business all these years later, but stopped in Mitchel, SD on the way back to northern B.C. from Oshkosh in 1991. There was an outfit restoring Ford Mustangs that had an amazing collection and small museum. They restored mustangs for folks as well as their own collection.

The museum was closed the day we were by. When the lady we spoke to found out where we were from, she went and got her husband, the owner, and had him give us a personal tour of the facility. We got a look inside the working shop as well. The craftsmanship was 1st class. I remember all of the bolts that were installed in the cars were individually painted separately to match the surface they were going into.

Well worth a visit if they are still around.

I love Minam Lodge and Red's. I spent a week at Red's last summer care taking the place with my in-laws. They watch over Red's every summer in August; you might have seen them if you swung by. Did you have to do the double-airstrip takeoff with your Mooney?

Re: Where did you fly today?

No, we didn’t have any trouble getting straight out to the north. We were pretty light. It’s a little rough for the stiff, short gear, but we made it work. Neat place, we’ll be back.

Where did you fly today?

Didn’t go anywhere special, but took my oldest for his first “real” flight with just the two of us. We did some patterns (1.5 of them) about 6 months back but he wasn’t old enough for me to handle while flying so we took a tactical pause on the matter.

Did a 1.2 this weekend and he loved it. He did a great job, though he did succumb to the snooze monster before the end. 10/10, will do again as soon as we can!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew to a flower patch! Flew over to Lake Champlain with daughter #1 to visit a lodge that has sent us a bunch of rafting guests. Got permission to land on this strip. I had no idea it wasn't mowed. Kind of cool though. They also hooked us up with some maple syrup & raw milk.
