Over this hydroelectric dam I got a tour of the other day.
Built in 1927....., and in continuous use, upgraded as the decades flew by. 3 turbines, 7 MW each, with the instrumentation being a mix of brass steam gauges (6" dia.) and modern digital stuff. I also am a hydroelectric engineer, but mine only puts out .9 KW for 9 months of the year, but at 24/7 that adds up and being grid tied it is saved as KW credits on my utility statement (it's a statement, not a bill, I never own them anything other then 5 bucks a month connection fee). I told the tour giver (somewhat on the sly, not a formal tour, I was just at the right place at the right time), the head Sparky at the site, I'd get him a picture. This makes the third big hydro plant I have finagled a tour of, the operators are always surprised that anyone cares enough, they are unsung hero's in my book, keeping our lights on with nothing but water and gravity
