Love this plane and the story behind it. Were you at Triple Tree Fly-in (SC00) this past Saturday? I think I saw the plane there. Wanted to come have a word and introduce myself, but didn't want to be a bother. Anyway, love the plane and the tribute to your father and CFI. I have a Tuskegee Airmen calendar hanging in my cube at work and love the pictures and stories.

There's a great aerial shot of "The Pearl" in November's Cessna Pilots Association, pgs. 28 & 29!

It is just after lift-off from The Triple Tree Fly-In, Woodruff, SC.

Re: 1960 Cessna 182C Taildragger Conversion

Just an update on Pearl
I recently added the Sportsman STOL kit. Had the panel redone by PeeDee Avionics, Cheraw SC.
Removed the bench seat and added two individual 3/4 seats using kenmore STC

Working on interior next

Trying to resolve an issue with Gamin. GFC500 autopilot not STC’d for 1960 Cessna 182C (that’s what she technically is even after tailwheel conversion).

Chic,

If you can't the get the GFC500 resolved you might consider the Tru Trac.

But, that illustrates one of the problems with these conversions: Even after conversion, they’re still on paper, the original model. Whic can make for approval issues, like this.

True statement regarding paperwork issues after conversion.
When ATC asks aircraft type, I obliged to respond "Cessna 182"
Nonetheless, I would encourage someone considering a Conversion that "the benefits outweigh the challenges."
She's a great plane that will likely out-live me.

For what it's worth, the Garmin problem has nothing to do with the conversion

For a long time, the 180/185 Club only allowed 180/185 owners to become members.
A lot of guys with 182 TD conversions weren't too happy about that.
I think they relaxed that policy-- in fact, you might not even need to own an airplane to be a member these days.

Any GA organization with a mindset to exclude/alienate folks and minimize their member base won't do well when their total available market is shrinking.

Very similar to the mistakes from the curmudgeonly and rude leadership of another Cessna type club I bailed on.

As stubborn, grumpy old men pass on from the hobby and community, things can change for the better.

I would rather own this 182 converted to TW than most 180's/185's I've seen!

Hey, let’s not get personal with the critique of “stubborn, grumpy old men” here. Some of us fall into that category yet firmly dislike that organization. I quit the 170 association because of one guy with a “holier than thou” attitude. And those 180/185 guys......sheesh!

I too would be happy to fly or own a machine like this......

Merry Christmas to all the grumpy old men out there, and to the rest of you too :D

Re: 1960 Cessna 182C Taildragger Conversion

Chico’s 182 is incredible! I too would love to have that airplane.

I think the 180/185 club really blew it with their ownership requirement. I was a long time member and when I sold my first 185 they were really quick to drop me, when I got my second 185 I did not rejoin. There are a lot of very knowledgeable 180/185 people out there that do not own a 180/185, when the club excludes these types of people and their wisdom they bring it just turns the club into a social experiment.

I have to agree with Aryana and MTV, my experience with the 170 site was the same as theirs.

I'm glad this site is not that way at all. Zane and the rest do a great job moderating. The experience and knowledge on the forum is second to none!

BCP is my aviation happy place on the internet. Kudos to ZZZ!

There's a lot to love about this airplane, but I have to say the simple and elegant paint scheme is truly unique, darn good looking, and compliments the lines of the aircraft very well.
