Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

If done as u describe stol, that works there. Lori's comments are that with that approach, u really haven't got much time to "shop" the strip or to watch for departing planes...most aren't as wise as u and tend to hog the center of the canyon, damn dangerous...

same goes for the departure as well. i like to go immediately to the right when taking off, and if able just to continue north to and thru the notch...depends whether i'm goin' to challis or mccall...!sometimes just turn left 180 in the bowl up high, head south then to mccall...not a big fan of the Lick creek departure...Ray A does it this way...

Lori's biggest thing all over is slow flight, and she is right. the dumb things i've done in the back-country usually have to do with my lack of speed control...i constantly have to work on it...your earlier idea of spiraling down seems to work for a lot of people as well, and like ice said set up a normal pattern with a short approach on either end. respectful of the house and such...those maule guys are good sticks!

Leaving Thursday, or Friday morning, maybe even Saturday morning. All depends on crane work at the womens prison!

Don't know which way I'll go, or whether or not I'll fly direct or make some stops. This is typical of my pre flight planning, I like to keep myself guessing :o I admire you guys who figure it all out before takeoff =D>

If you can extend 75 miles Stop in Cascade for fuel, get directions on which road and power lines to follow to J'Creek. Arnold Aviation has a van they loan out to go to the store and cafe if you need to kill time to wait for winds. Arnold has airplanes in the backcountry most of the day and they can give you good info on conditions. 20% t'storms is the fly in the ointment.

Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

even better,,, Arnold is probably cheaper gas anyway... Anyway avoid Council... most expensive gas I ever got was there....you don't need no stinkin directions from there... Just fly east over warm lake to landmark and make a left..drop down into the canyon north of Landmark and your set up for left downwind,,,,lucky shit!!! :D Damn I'm gettin excited and I'm not even going till the end of July!!!!

Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

Butch, Tom,
I'm nursing a pulled muscle in my back so I'm a no go on the camping this trip. I wanted to stay at Smiley but they are fully booked the entire week-weekend. Tom I will call council for a price before I leave. It will be either Council or Emmett for the fuel stop. I'll definitely be @ JC Sat.and I will be going to Smiley since I've never been@ Smiley. Butch are you going this year?

Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

no Bill,, couple reasons really... Streams are too fast for fishing which is the second big reason I go and I have to head for upstate new york on the 29th and won't get back till the 9th of July,,, then about 3 weeks to recover and squirrel away a few bucks and I'll head for JC about the 28th of July for a week. or 10 days, whichever comes first...

Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

Bill, if www.100LL.com is to be believed:

http://www.100ll.com/showfbo.php?HashID ... 52f39064eb

Cascade is sub-$5.00 on 100LL. I would give them a call first.

Maybe sleeping on rocks and pine cones would straighten your back out.

Re: 2011 BCP.org Fly-In Johsnson Creek - Departures, Routes,

I understand some of you don't want to socialize. That is fine. Do your thing and enjoy. I have a ball meeting new people. The wx right now is a 10++. 70* sun.

If I were you I would drop everything and head straight to the airplane and JC.

Cheers...Rob
