JM
What a good deal to get Andy to do a presentation, My friend who we lost on the Cathederal Glacier (Kurt Gloyer), And Andy were good friends, He, Paul and Doug travel some pretty high roads!!!
Any chance you can talk Doug the chopper pilot from Haines Junction into coming? He helped us get Kurt and the other two survivors out of a bottomless Crevice at 12,500, Him and those courageous and wonderful Park Wardens of Kluane Park along with Paul and Andy are some of my Hero's
Hope to see all of you there.

Hey, how smooth is the runway? I would like to put my wheel pants on for the long flight up but I would hate to leave them there.

Hi JK...yep, GT is bang on, gravel and in great shape...the photo you see on the first page of this thread is bang on...many fly with wheel pants all over. You may want to remove them for the fly out to Telsequa but you can just as quick put them back on after that. We will fly over Atlin Lake, Juneau Icefield, land at Telsequa and back to Atlin!

Cheers, J-M

Ken, of course! we will set you up for the nicest place around and you may just win some fantastic prizes that you can use while spending time in the Yukon! The loop through Carcross, Dawson, Haines Junction, Whitehorse is a fantastic flight plan! Ron Grue will be at the flyin', he has a nice strip south of Haines Junction near the Alaska border...great joint.. No worries, we'll hook you up! If you wish to make reservations for Dawson City, it would be prudent. Call Mary Anne at the WestMark Whitehorse hotel, tell her that you are with the Atlin Flyin' and that I told you to call her..she'll book you up at a good rate in Dawson. Cheers, J-M

Re: 2012 Atlin Floats and Wheels Flyin' & Campin' *MENU is u

EMERGENCY CONTACT # in Atlin:

We will have a phone at the airport in Atlin in case you need to contact me or another organizer. You can also pass on this number to your families in case of emergency: 250-651-2226 Helen will likely answer the phone, you can leave messages for me or anyone else. Internet terminal will be available on site as well for EAPIS filing, weather, etc.

***PILOTS: Make sure to close your flight plan upon arrival to Atlin. If you are coming from the US, you will need to close with Juneau.*** You can clear Customs directly in Atlin, the RCMP officers are designated Custom Officers and will be available...You must call 1-888 CAN PASS (226-7277) two (2) hours prior to your arrival in Atlin.

The East Coast band "North to Finch" will be performing after the Raffle draws on Sunday evening =D> The dance will take place in the main hangar

One of us organizers will have a hand held radio at most times and will be able to provide airfield advisory upon arrival (Friday & Saturday) within 10 miles of the airfield on 123.2 If no answer, proceed as per normal uncontrolled field operations. Once you have landed, you will be marshalled to a parking spot along the old runway fence. As for float planes, we will provide you with an advisory and your parking location upon landing. Overflow will park at Komo lake 1 mile west of the airfield and transportation will be provided. Komo has a beautiful beach perfect for float parking!

Any questions, please PM me.

Cheers, BCT

Thanks George...I just updated the post above with the number to call 2 hours prior to arrival... The Mounties are designated custom officers and I spoke to them in person today and they will be available. Thanks for bringing up this very important detail! \:D/

Make sure you give DEE a call over at the Alaska Airmens and let them know you can clear customs there, they were talking a month or so ago about getting some people over that way.
Still hoping to make it!! [-o<

Live auction to take place right after Sunday night's dinner!

Re: 2012 Atlin Floats and Wheels Flyin' & Campin' *Live Auct

Here's an important message from Tom George from, AOPA Alaska Regional Manager, thank you Tom!

I don’t know how many folks coming to your flyin might be returning to Alaska via Northway, but I thought I would pass on something that came to my attention yesterday.

The US Customs Alcan Border Station is experiencing a temporary staffing shorting, making it more difficult to clear aircraft entering Alaska at Northway. Published operational hours for entering at the Northway Airport are between 8:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Alaska Time) daily. During this temporary staffing shortage, we can expect better service if we arrive between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. While they will honor the published hours, pilots may experience a longer wait time for clearance.

Also note that due to the river tour closing in Eagle, there is no longer a customs officer stationed there to clear aircraft.

As always, calling the Alcan station at least two hours prior to arrival time is essential.

Here's a list of Customs and Border patrol for Aviation in AK
Hope this link will help some.

Tried to copy the page image, but that did not work.
It is so ridiculous that it is so hard to get back into AK. And the USA!!!!

Re: 2012 Atlin Floats and Wheels Flyin' & Campin'

I plan to fly up Friday evening from Juneau. I have not had a problem here with Customs, though they do tend to seem to want to make it hard for a U.S. citizen to enter their own country... Anybody else planning on bringing dogs with them? This will be our first camping trip for my puppy (1.5 years now, still a big puppy to me).

Re: 2012 Atlin Floats and Wheels Flyin' & Campin'

George, Haines is also a port of entry and for doing it quite a bit myself and getting used to it, it aint that bad...just the EAPIS that is truly a pain in the butt but the good thing is that once you are registered with them, all the info shows up so all that you have to enter is your point of entry & time really... so no biggy! The plan is the fly to Skagway for the 4th of July although the celebrations and fireworks happen on the night of the 3rd. Parade and games is on the 4th.

Dogs...yes, a few people bringing theirs from what I recall.
