I fretted over the wx like everybody else this week, but decided to take the plunge. I couldn't take my old slow bird because I had to be back for work. Luckily, I have a buddy who let me borrow his magic carpet for the weekend.

Averaged 225 mph going south, with several periods over 250. Faster than I've ever piloted a plane.

Had a great time with Shortfielder and BTV in Amarillo on Thursday looking at a bunch of great old warbirds at BTV's home strip (one guy has a wine cellar in the downstairs of his hangar).. Got to go fly with a new taildragger pilot in his brand new PA-12 on Friday, then loaded up and headed south for Llano. Wx was ridiculously nice on Friday, despite the horror stories the weather guessers had been telling all week. Here's what Llano looked like all day Friday.

Cloudy with low ceilings on Saturday, but not low enough to keep everybody from having a lot of fun. The short landing contest over the 30 foot obstacles was the highlight of the weekend. (Randy Goza made a 200' landing in Barnstormer's SQ-2, AFTER going over the 30' pylons. RIDONKULOUS).

The traditional short landing contest was fun too. BTV dropped his Rans S-7 in under 100 feet, even beating the Carbon Cubs! (Please don't anybody congratulate him--he's already going to be hard enough to live with...)
Turnout was lower than last year, but plenty of brave souls came out for the fun.

Shortfielder was there with the Margwagon.

Soy made the trip from Boulder in the Crazy Daisy.

And the blue bonnets were out in full splendor.

Needless to say, the BCP crew took home A LOT of hardware!

Names were put to faces, plenty of drinks were consumed around the campfire, many stories were told (some of which had the additional benefit of being true), and lots of fun was had by all. Here's to next year!!!!
