Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

Flew over to Llano today. Thanks to the rain we've had lately the grass strip is in the best shape in years. And the bluebonnets are starting to bloom everywhere. Timing should be perfect for a wild flower explosion throughout the hill country during the Roundup.

Stopped by the hotels, the Lone Star Inn still has seven rooms available if any of you want/need to book a hotel room.

Hey Phil, what's store pickup for the shipping option? Do we buy on the website and pick up at the event?

No, you'd have to go to Austin and pick em up at the store that prints them.

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

Today two of my friends, Steve and Jason (aka 55wagon), joined me at Lake Buchanan to open back up a strip on what I call SuperCub Island (cause I don't know its real name). This will be one of the places we go for the Sunday Big Tire flyout after the Roundup.

55wagon has the Sportsman STOL and WingX extensions which gave me a chance to see how my 185 will perform once I get it back. Boy do these mods allow a wagon to fly slow. Can't wait.

I've added a National Weather Service widget for Llano Airport to the right side of the Texas STOL Roundup webpage.

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

I see the weather is looking like there might be little damp. i'm not afraid of a little rain, but I've seen planes ruined by a thunder storm's hail or wind. Can Llano see some nasty thunderstorms this time of year, or will it just be a little rain and wind?

I've lived in the Hill Country since 1999. We've had two hail storms where I live. One pea-sized and the other quarter-sized. As of today the National Weather Service is not forecasting any severe weather, only a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms. The rainfall amount, if it occurs, is forecast to be less the 1/2".

Over at Llano working on getting runway set up. Here is a video I shot this morning on the way over. Lots of wildflowers, and the grass that can be used to the right of 17/35, and a pass down the camping/competition runway 13/31.

I'm wondering how many people are not going to this stol competition because of the lousy weather forecast. I have really been looking forward to going to this but I don't really want to make the investment if there is going to be a poor turnout even if the contest does occur.
What are y'all going to do?

I'm planning on being there rain or shine, I'll fly if the weather is looking good for my return trip to the coast on Sunday. If not I'll just load up the truck, this should be too much fun to pass up.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Gotten a number of phone calls asking if the 8:00am Saturday deadline is still in effect. The answer is no. We understand some folks might get weather delayed on the way down so we will accommodate as needed. It's all about everyone having a good time. See you soon.

I'll be there if I can get out.
Gary are you still getting in today?

Just a reminder. Bring stakes and tie downs.

Thanks again to you Phil for all the hard work and expense!

Still driving down with the girls. Going to be fun no matter the weather. Thanks also again to Phil for the efforts and let me know if you need any more ground volunteers to help out. Will be taking lots of photos/videos. Looking forward to meeting other BCP'ers.
Take care all,
Chris

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

I am still planning to launch today to make it to Amarillo for the RON tonight with BTV. High winds will carry me there quickly but I'm afraid it's going to be a rough ride with mod turb and 30kt surface winds and lowish ceilings. Wringing my hands a bit.
