Re: American Scout

My dad owned a Scout, I flew it a lot, I have owned a Super Cub, Arctic Tern, Citabria and 2 Husky's. The Scout is a very good airplane but I much prefer the Husky over all the airplanes I just listed.

Re: American Scout

I think Scouts just suffer from the same bad press the old Champ suffered from which was... it just wasn't a cub. The Champ and all it's progeny are good airplanes. I'd love to have a Scout if I could afford it.

Re: American Scout

Eduardo was great seeing you at both airshows I really enjoyed them :)

Im trying to book test flights for Sun and Fun , want to test a Scout, a Maule and a Carbon Cub.
Im pretty much sure Im going to like the Carbon Cub better, but just in case wanna test all of them.
Last year I test flew a Husky, liked it much more than my 182 for sure, but its too expensive I think.

Re: American Scout

This is TopSec / NoFor information:. The Scouts are dispersed around the field for security reasons. Lots of Big Tire envy in Sac these days. Need to make sure my 35" ABW don't end up on a Rans when I'm not looking.

G44-

Lake Isabel WA. Last summer.
All I can take credit for is ownership of the plane. A couple of instructors from Rainier Flight Service took the plane to the lake and snapped the photo.

Re: American Scout

Motoadve: If you're headed to Sun-N-Fun, you should make a side trip to Moultrie, GA and book an hour at Maule Flight with Ray Maule. You can also see a number of Maules in for repair and modification at Maule Air, usually including a bare bones fuselage in for recover. On the other side of the same airport you can visit the production facility at Maule Air. You'll get a much better look at the planes there than Sun-N-Fun can offer. The airshow is a blast though, and should not be missed. With a bit of luck, I'll be camping at the show with my Maule this year.

Re: American Scout

I have a grand total of 30 minutes in a Scout (4 touch and go's)... I have to say that, for the money, and if it fit my mission, I would have no reservations whatsoever...

Great performers and seemed much easier to handle on roll-out than my Maule.

Cool...

Re: American Scout

Larry, I'm going to be at SNF also this year. I would love to get together and do some of the test flying of the Scout, Maule, and CC with you. I'm also in the market. Let's PM each other.

Re: American Scout

Hey BRD, that yellow/blue Scout looks to be on Wipline amphibs. Haven't seen that before. 150 lbs over the straight floats, 400 lbs overall. Some of the corporate/government stuff around here was on amphib (I flew both amphib and straight Wiplines), but to earn a living you couldn't afford the loss of payload for the minor benefit. Not to mention insurance for steely-eyed agents that are too well aware of the things that can go wrong with amphibs.

I flew a Scout one summer on straight floats, dropping into the all-girl college by a lake. Loved that airplane....could have been that time in my life as well. ;)
