Re: Another Cessna Interior Refurb! W/pics!

I asked about the year, because of the initial weight, does it has bigger tires and heavy duty fork?

According to my weight and balance document which was revised 10 years ago, my 1973 182 weights1740 pounds.
Might be a bit lees now.(MT prop, no wheel pants lighter tires)

And according to the Cessna POH Empty weight should be 1645.

Why was that plane 1959 lbs to start with?

Just curious.

Its an excellent job you did and Im tempted to do the same :)

Re: Another Cessna Interior Refurb! W/pics!

You are correct, it has 8.50s and an airglass for fork to start with. Add on a rmd wingtips, strobes, SafeAir console, avionics, and so on. His was not a light bird to begin with, which why 112 lbs is so exciting!

Amazingly meticulous work! The attention you put into that work is truly something to be proud of.

Long shot because I know this is an old thread resurrect, but what did you use to adhere the foam with?

Thanks!

I used the super soundproof with adhesive backing from spruce. 2 years later no issues

Another interior question to ask, and since this thread is active:

Planning to install Selkirk interior. Does the carpet have to go under it, or can I put the carpet in last? Sometimes we need into the floor (think float/wheel changes) and removing panels to get the carpet rolled back out of the way is a nuisance. I’d like it to just overlap the bottom flanges of the Selkirk panels. Experience and opinions welcome.

Re: Another Cessna Interior Refurb! W/pics!

This post has been an inspiration for my 182M interior project that will be installed in a few weeks.

I've followed along and purchased the LakeVue jump seats, Selkirk interior foam kit, Selkirk extended baggage kit and Selkirk fibreglass interior panels for the bottom half of the interior. For the window surrounds I went with Premier. Door cards and kickpanel will be custom made to fit the new leather pilot and copilot seats. The head liner will be fabric and custom fit around the BAS harness and to hide all the antennae and interior lighting cables which I don't want exposed to prying fingers.

I am still arguing with myself about the pros and cons of flooring material...I wanted to go with SCS Interiors' vinyl with ensolite backing but this is quite heavy vs a lightweight fabric with ensolite backing. I am tending toward vinyl though as it is easy to wipe clean and the mat holds its shape better to the cabin shape without having to go nuts with velcro. The mat will need to be custom made so it works with the LakeVue jumpseat track and Selkirk passenger and cargo compartment liners.

I did initially plan to go "naked" as the OP interior as I like this "skeletonized" look. A lot.

However, knowing how rough I can be with bikes and toolboxes I backed off from only installing the selkirk insulation foam and added the new fibreglass and plastic liners because insulation foam does not give much protection from sharp corners. I don't want to dent the airplane skin from the inside. I also don't want pax pick away at the insulation foam (you know they're gonna...the crap pax have done to my interiors over the years tests my faith. And not just kids).

I went a similar direction - LakeVue folding seats, vinyl floor with ensolite backing (didn't get it from them, got it from the same supplier they use as none of SCS patterns really fit well for the 62 180), and yes it kind of heavy. For sides I put in the adhesive backed silver bubble type insulation (aviation type) and then installed carbon fiber panels. And for the ceiling I did the skeletal with the black insulation foam, but covered it in fabric (actually used headliner fabric that I bought in a roll - came with a burn cert) to give it a more finished look. Just that couple inches that you gain on the ceiling makes it feel a bit more open. But a nice well fitting headliner looks great as well. Look forward to some pics when you get done.

Re: Another Cessna Interior Refurb! W/pics!

I'm liking this open/skeletal look on these plans, with the insulation in the cavities. One thing I'm curious about, did you do anything in particular to hide fuel/wiring/cables that are no longer hidden behind the panels or headliner? Tough to tell from the picture what was done with those items.

Re: Another Cessna Interior Refurb! W/pics!

I know this is an old post but I am also curious about these items (cables, fuel lines) as well as the wiring along the forward kick plate areas. Looks like some fab work would be in order? For those successful in getting this completed, what basis was used to gain approval? Field approval, minor modifications? We are in the process of doing this exact project and my mechanic is asking questions... Any help would be appreciated!
