Re: Austin Fly-In 2012

4.5 hrs back thanks to a little tail wind most of the way, now it's blowing pretty good with a lot of build ups and I could care less, good to be on the ground sometimes!

The cattle rustlers I spotted making their getaway across the Diamond Valley dry lake bed: clear out in the middle of nowhere, it looked pretty suspicious, so I checked it out.Image A closer look revealed that the married couple were moving the cattle from grazing ground on one side of the lake to their ranch on the opposite side. From the air it looked like a scene from a Mad Max movie, or life after the Apocalypse, with miles of nothing all around them, they had a great attitude though and we had a good visit, they answered cattle/dry lake questions and I answered plane questions, and the dogs got to shade up.ImageImage I stopped there again on the way back to disperse some coffee, and then next stepped out of the plane hours and 300+ miles or so later and without thinking tracked caked dry lake sand into the house  Pretty cool really.... Lot's of Nevada between my place and Austin, a real fun trip! Getting to sail a land yacht was a treat, and only a little dangerous, mostly to the parked aircraft, I almost took Gump's campsite out

Driving was not ideal but I had a blast flying my RC choppers and Kite Buggying. Huge thanks to the Dory's for putting on an amazing fly-in. I highly recommend this one if you haven't been. Perfect size, amazing place, amazing people, and a super laid back my type of fly-in.

Re: Austin Fly-In 2012

Great pics guys! Looks like a great time. Wish I had been able to get over, but a good thing I didn't. Our upstairs AC went out Friday night. Luckily I got it fixed with the help of Youtube the next morning for minimal $$$. Had I gone, the house may not have been the only thing that would have been hot when I got home. So it was good I was here to keep Dee and the little ones cool. Hopefully next year it will work out.

Looks like everyone had a great time! Awesome pics! My #4 Cylinder decided it needed an overhaul this year during the annual, so I am AOG until I get it back. Will try to get there next year!

Pops Dory stirring beans is a classic.
Excellent pictures.
Excellent gathering, and very glad to meet those whose missives I've read while trying to conjure up the characters behind them.
Thankyou for putting it together.

Re: Austin Fly-In 2012

Wow, Awesome pictures everyone, it's really fun to check them out.. I kinda forgot to even get my camera out much, so this is priceless. Some of these are going to end up in the Battle Mountain Bugle, our closest newspaper.

Thank You everyone for a great weekend. We had virtually no clean up, everyone left things is such great shape. What an awesome bunch to hang with. You all are the very best.....

It is kinda lonesome out there again, so don't hesitate to stop by if your passing by this way... ha ha.. [-o<
