Back on Wheels! And why I love it!

It's awesome to be off skis and back on wheels. BTW, I'll be flying her down to the Lower 48 this coming fall and will have her at Rocktober STOL so bring your "A game".

She thanks you for the compliments. ;-)

Breakup. About a month early, which couldn't make me happier. I don't like winter in Alaska.

Today I was reminded why I live to fly in Alaska.

I wish we’d had the money when Russia listed it on the market!

Let me know if you will ever be down by Lake Clark. I'm based at Port Alsworth now.

Will do. Definitely will fly through Lake Clark on the way to the Russia trip. Always stop at Port Alsworth to stretch our legs.

Phil,

I was always happy when transition time came along for landing gear. I loved the variety of wheels, skis and floats, and was always excited to go back to another gear type and type of flying.

Enjoy!

I left my amphibs on all winter this year. Really sorry that I missed out on wheel flying this winter. I won’t do that again.

Floats I haven’t done. Would like to. Chip keeps wanting me to buy a Beaver, get it painted like his, and then lease it to him during float season. I don’t know a lot but seems to me that would defeat the purpose of me have a float plane.

I was young enough when I lived in Alaska that I enjoyed winter--clearly only the young are that foolish! But at ages 26-29, I guess foolish goes with the territory. But I learned to fly there, soon after my 29th birthday, and I have a lot of other really fond memories of The Great Land. I would very much like to return to visit--but not in winter!

Had a great time ski flying with the short warm winter, but it’s a nice change to be back on big tires.

How are those Airglass skis working for you? Never got the chance to fly a set.

They worked great! I’m still smiling. Glad I went with the Airglas skis!

Re: Back on Wheels! And why I love it!

You guys keep patting yourself on the back for taking the skis off, and I'll try not to rub it in when I continue to hit the higher areas, where we will have snow for weeks/months yet!

Just kidding, it's always a tough decision for me too, and I also love having brakes again, along with those manly looking tires instead of the girly 6:00's I have to suffer through the winter with. I hope to fly up to a ski area next weekend on the Montana/Idaho border, making mucho landings along the way, after that I'll probably pull mine also. Having brakes again is always a thrill!
