CO Front Range Meet & Greet/Fly-in - KGXY / 9:30 / 1/19/13

Let's get a Breakfast/Brunch run together for the CO front range/Denver area folks.

Let me know what everyone is thinking. Some good dates could be Sat 1/19/13 or 2/2/13. Places can be KAPA, KBJC, KGXY, KFTG, or anywhere else with warm, greasy airport food!? I'm in for anything reasonable.

Chime in. :)

If the consensus is at GXY, that's where I hangar my airplane, and I have lunch there so often that I'll be glad to visit with the Barnstormer folks to set it up. We'll need a head count, because it's a pretty popular place on Saturdays.

The cafe at Front Range is pretty darn good as well for those who haven't made it over yet.

Me too. GXY works good for me as the folks who run Barnstomers are good friends. The other sites are OK too.
May bring along some others flyers too.

If you guys want to come out to Boulder, I'll spring for the greasy breakfast. For anyone not flying, my wife makes a mean bloody mary. I've been talking to the FBO owner about hosting a gathering anyway - this seems as good a time as any.

I don't think we need anybodys permission if we show up and there just happens to be a handle of vodka, sausages, and pancake batter for the griddle. I'll check anyway and maintain plausible deniability.

I'm working all the weekends in January, but if it happens to work out for 2/2, I'll probably be able to make it. (fingers crossed!) I'd love to put some faces with names!

Thanks for the offer Greg. Perhaps that will work out, but if not that's fine too. You're hangar isn't heated by chance. :)

I guess I should add KPUB to the list too. KGXY sounds good like a good pick, it's in a central location and I haven't eaten at Barnstormers yet. Last year we met at KBJC for a small gathering and the food was pretty good (cheap 100LL with the SS pump now).

Anyone else want to chime in before I pick a date and time (I know I won't be able to please everyone, sorry).

Ummm, Matt, last I heard, P'eblo removed the tie-down anchors from the ramp. I wouldn't go there without tiedowns available.

There have also been some pretty good breakfast runs to places like Yuma and Eads, but it's a ~20 minute walk from the tiedowns.

Thanks. cubscout

KGXY would work good for me, from northwest Nebraska weather permitting.

Re: CO Front Range Meet & Greet/Fly-in - 2013

As far as a date goes, my vote would be for 2/2/13 since I have an earlier commitment on 1/29, but I would try to reschedule if necessary. Any of the airfields mentioned are good....however, GXY and BDU are only CTAF, not control towered.... just saying....

Re: CO Front Range Meet & Greet/Fly-in - 2013

GXY is easy - but will be a challenge to squeeze into the restaurant on weekend mornings with a large group.

1/29 is a Tuesday, I think. I probably need this to be a weekend morning if you want me to host. 2/2 works for me - but I may be going to Telluride that weekend - need to double check that as well.

My hangar isn't heated, but the FBO is - there is a nice deck with a gas grill just off a sliding glass door from the heat and I'm offering to spring for the pancakes, bacon, sausages, coffee and bloody marys for the non-flyers (and those of us on the home field) and do the cooking.

I went to the field today, but the FBO owner is on vacation already for the new year. I'll text him and see if its okay - but he seemed to like the idea last time I mentioned it in passing. Fuel prices are pretty reasonable now at $5.23 for 100ll, so I can't see that he would object because at least some of us are going to be buying gas.

I'm up for whatever, though...

GXY is pretty easy for us flat landers out east, especially since I don't have a transponder in the rans, but I have been under the class b before, its not that hard to call and get permission.

Re: CO Front Range Meet & Greet/Fly-in - 2013

I got a tentative green light from the FBO Owner. I think I prefer 1/19 if you want to do it here - hoping to go skiing in telluride the weekend of 2/2 (but that trip is not totally confirmed on my end).

Go ahead and make a call - not a big deal either way as far as I go - and if you want me to host I'll work out the details.

I'm in too! Sat 1/19 prob works best for me. I've never been to Barnstormers at GXY, so if we're able to get in, that sounds good. If not, the suggestions Matt & Greg have offered will work also.

Re: CO Front Range Meet & Greet/Fly-in - 2013

Well, let's just do this: Sat 1/19/13 at 9:30am at KGXY. The barnstormer restaurant is closed today, but I'll give them a call Weds and give them a heads up. (Both HC and Cary seem to have some connections as well  ).

I know this isn't perfect for everyone (sorry), but it seems to work out well for the majority. If this gets cancelled due to weather, we'll hold it on Sat 2/2/13. As we all know with the winds, snow and fog, anything can happen.

Greg (soy), I love your idea and perhaps we can set this up for a later date (it sounds like Mr. Head approves). The winter is long and the more excuses to fly the better. Thank you for the generous offer! =D>

Works for me.

Another fave is a trip over the hill to Granby...nice courtesy car, and good eats. Weather (and service ceiling) dependent, however.
