I’d like to do something similar, but the quick drains I’ve used (all 2 of them) state that hoses cannot be left connected.

Looks like the aeroquip.

Correct - its the aeroquip - and that hose can be left on, installation instructions say you can trim it to the length you want or you can remove it if you want.
"NOTE: Hose may be trimmed or
removed."

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Looks great.... except that small backup Dynon in the middle.. why haven't they improved the aesthetics on those to match the HDX's?? haha

You're going to have an incredible plane.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Is the hole below the small Dynon is for an engine monitor?
Which one are you going with?

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Looks super!!!! I'm very interested how the panel is going to match up with the old glare shield area shape. Would be nice to have a shot like standing on a tire looking down in that area.

I agree 100% - that is the Dynon DA10 and its long in the tooth and fugly (but required for the STC)! Rumor is there is a replacement that matches the HDX on the way and it will be a slide in replacement. I talked to Dynon and they would not confirm or deny, but agreed that the DA10 has been around for a long time and its logical to assume it will be replaced..

No, I'm using the Dynon engine monitoring module, so I can display my engine monitoring on either screen, as a ribbon, half screen or full screen.

That space below the Dynon D10A - is for my audio panel PMA 450B and my future IFR nav unit Avidyne IFD 440 - tray, wiring harness, and GPS antenna will be already installed, so I can just slide in the IFD 440 down the road.

Thanks - I'm really looking forward to this. There is no old glare shield, it's all new - here is a pic, there is still the grill on the top to be installed, and the glare shield will attach on top of this (that open hole in this pic is one of the places the glare shield will be attached via a nut plate, and it will all be perfect fit and finish.

Sportsman STOL going on and then headed for the paint booth, plane is in the background - going to strip as well and paint (the paint on there was an attempt to paint over old paint - changed the plan and doing a proper paint job)

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Thats going to be cool!

Have you thought about Stene Aviation Quasar wingtips? I just installed the whole enchilada. All AERO LED, every light. If I can figure out how to post a video I will. I really want to be seen, day or night.

Yep I ordered the Quasar wingtips same time as the Sportsman. I had already switched all my position/strobe lights over to LED, and wing landing/taxi lights. Adding the quasars and replacing / adding interior lights with all LED and under wing courtesy LED lights. When it's all done will be 100% LED as well.

I think you’ll find those rudder pedals to be a really nice addition. The pedals in my 170 were shot, so I replaced with a set of these, and I found it MUCH easier to avoid inadvertent braking with rudder application. Cessna did a good job redesigning the pedals, it turns out.

Fantastic job on the restoration!
