Flying to Osh! What an adventure

This was by far the coolest experience of my short pilot career... flew to Jackson MN to meet up with an awesome group of pilots. From there we flew to Osh together over the next couple of days. It was way to much fun...

Great vid! Looks like everyone had a blast. On my list for next year, I went to Fairbanks to visit family this year.

Re: Flying to Osh! What an adventure

I really want to make that trip. I was going to wait until the bearhawk is done to make my pilgrimage, but I think rolling into there with my own 170 would be cool. The only problem is that I don't have the load to take the whole fandamly and according to a quick skyvector flight plan, it's around 27 hours of flying, 2460 miles, and 200 gallons of fuel.

Let's see, if I average $5.50 a gallon (half the flight is in Canada, eh?) that puts me at $2200 in fuel to fly there and back.

Hmm, looks like the bearhawk in economy cruise is a little more fuel, a hair faster, and in go fast mode, should be be 9 hours less flying and 30 more gallons.

So for now, it's just a dream, but I'm not complaining, I have beautiful country to fly in...

That was awesome! It's been way too long since I flew into Oshkosh last (11 years ?!) Your video makes me want to do it again soon! =D>

Glad you had a good time! OSH is a special experience, no matter what your experience level may be. The last several years, I've spent slightly longer than the week, and I love it! I wouldn't want to live there, but for the 8-10 days I'm there each year, it's great! I hope you can continue to do it.

Re: Flying to Osh! What an adventure

Dang, I missed all of the BCP-ers there this year. Still had a great time. I'm amazed that a crowd that large is completely full of people that are happy to talk about anything aviation related. I met lots of people and was reminded of what a small world it is. While taking pictures of warbirds as the sun was setting one evening, I ran into a serious photographer with 4 cameras slung around his neck. We chatted briefly and I asked him where he was from. He said it was a small town in the Northwest I probably never heard of. It turns out he was from Sequim, WA, only about 25 miles from my hometown of Port Hadlock. Stories like that repeated themselves throughout the week. I've been home since last Saturday and I'm still smiling. And I know I didn't do any backcountry flying on this trip, but that's coming up later this summer.

I saw a lot of beautiful country, but it was still good to get home to the Cascades in Washington State!
