Flying with RobW56

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Flying with RobW56

We went to Arkansas last month to visit family and I got to do a little bit of exploring while I was out there. We landed at about 7 grass strips in the Ozark's including Byrd’s, Trigger Gap, and John Harris Field. There’s definitely some cool places out there!

No that was at Richland Creek.

Rob, Did getting the flat change your opinion on the Desser 8.50s? Seems like some have said they might be a bit light for C180s so I'm curious.

Yes, it did change my opinion of them. I’m not sure if I’ll continue to run them. After we got it off the rim we found what was left of what punctured the tire and tube. It looked like a part of a small stick or stem. I easily broke up the rest of it with my fingers. I can’t see that doing the same thing on a regular tire.

Thanks Rob. I'd like to try a smooth tire but want something tough. Think I'll try and find some 26" Goodyears.

The 26” goodyears are definitely tougher. That’s what I used to run. I decided to try the Dessers though since they are softer and 13lbs lighter per tire but not that much smaller.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted to this thread. I moved to Arkansas last year and have been doing some flying out in the Ozarks. Here’s a picture from yesterday’s adventure.

Nice! My neighbor takes his wagon to Arkansas sometimes. Says it's beautiful.

Re: Flying with RobW56

Curious, why did you move to Arkansas? You were in N California weren’t you?

Re: Flying with RobW56

Yes he was in Northern California. Then he went to San Antonio. And then the Air Force transferred him to Arkansas. I think this is his last move until the kids get Out of school. He’s trying to make it harder for grandpa to fly down and see his grandkids I think:-) But grandpa’s just liable to show up someday.

Thanks Cory, good to hear from you as well. I’ve been itching to get in a trip to Utah or Idaho. It may not happen this year but I’ll let you know when we do. It would be great to see you guys again!
