Nice! I have totalled a sled or two in my day. They really don't like it when they hit trees riderless at 70mph.

It's a blowing in my hood.

KGW TV Report:
At the Vista House at Crown Point wind gusts topped 65 mph Friday. The high east winds were expected to stick around at least through Super Bowl weekend.

The Vista house is at 800MSL in an area where the wind blows the hardest. When the wind gets to Troutdale airport on the ground that 65 MPH is 40-45 MPH That deserves your full attention!

Yesterday there was only 1 other plane besides me flying. The helicopter and fixed wing schools were grounded. The hills in the area make for some sick turbulence when the wind crosses at 40-65MPH You better pull that seat belt tight!

As soon as I turned down wind yesterday I was getting a ground speed of 180MPH that was a 35MPH push. Today will be the same.

This is when I like my wide gear even though it weighs 50lbs more.

Re: Good day BCP friends

Those east winds are pounding the cascades pretty good. Niccole and I are down staying at Black Butte Ranch. Skied Hoodoo yesterday. The wind topped out at 57mph on the summit. Beautiful day to ski except for the wind. Lifts on standby half the day,

Re: Good day BCP friends

When I got home to Twin Oaks yesterday, the wind was out of the E about 12ish kts, which is pretty cross to their runway. Sock was nearly straight out. The Cub is easiest handling aircraft in crosswinds I have flown yet, lots of fun, like riding a motorcycle.

Interesting air yesterday. It was kind of this shear at about 300 AGL on up, kinda choppy. I can only imagine what Troutdale and the gorge were like.

Not this time Gump. :) From what I hear, there's about 30" at the hangar. If I fly by March, I'll be happy.

Winds were 4kts when I departed SPB at 12:30 today, My GPS was reading winds between 20-30mph around 1500'. I didn't venture as far east as the gorge. Glad I didn't.

Re: Good day BCP friends

I was out flying my Dad's Stinson in the wind yesterday too. We wanted to go to Pacific City but winds over 20kts 80 degrees to the runway meant a no go for me flying an unfamiliar airplane. So we went to Independence instead. This morning was much calmer around here though and made for some smooth flying.

Re: Good day BCP friends

For the Troutdale airport. You still have 2days to work on your wind landings.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 51. Breezy, with a east wind between 22 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. Breezy, with a east wind around 26 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Windy, with a east wind 29 to 32 mph decreasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

Re: Good day BCP friends

I was out at TTD last year in the Cub, when it was 28 down the runway. I may as well have been in a hot air balloon. :) Kinda fun, on the juice hard on final just to get the to the runway.

Today in Chelan it is bright and sunny everywhere except the area around the airport.
