Re: Hay field landing.

So the saga continues.

Since I last posted about this I had shoulder surgery. That messed up a good 6 months. Then I have been busy building the cottage by the Pacific City airport. That has been 1.5 years now for the whole process.

About 6 months ago 22 acres across the street from my home place came up for sale. It borders 2 of our property's. There is a 36'X36' pole barn with an asphalt floor almost perfect to hangar the Maule. It looks like the deal will close. Fingers crossed!!! The farmer renting the dirt has first right of refusal. It looks like he has no interest in buying and his 30 days has expired, but you never know till the documents are signed.

So this is much much better than my first plan. This strip can be landed both ways. 1717' long at 620 MSL

Everything inside the red we own. 40 acres

How cool will it be to walk out the door a 100 yards to the hangar. Take off and in 45 min land at Pacific City and walk 150 yards to the cottage. Damn, ouch, I just pinched myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.

Cheers...Rob

Re: Hay field landing.

Very cool, I was kinda hinting at this in the X-mas party thread  since by the looks of it I see a N/S and E/W strip in your back yard :)

Oh well weather looks crappy anyways. Maybe I'll sack up and drive.

Good luck with the new strip!

Wow, that's an airstrip, buddy. I was wondering how cold it was going to have to be for me to get in and out of the other one you were proposing!

Re: Hay field landing.

And the saga continues:

We closed the deal, we own it.

Since the last report I have spent several hours with attorneys discussing the 10 year farm lease situation. We are bound by it period. I don't want to farm the land so having him is good.

The farmer wants me to land North South and East West.

The neighbor on the North South is concerned about noise from the 5 seconds I'll be near his house.

The East West looks like the best to keep everyone happy, BUT!! it is 650' plus 200' safety over run. No obstructions on approaching to the East. North South is 1450' with 30'-50' obstacles each end.

The diagonal I want is the safest and longest, but the farmer doesn't want to farm triangles. My ace in the hole is I control the water and he needs water. I am going to tell him I will experiment with North South East West. If it is to difficult I will trade water for the diagonal.

The farmer and the neighbor are always tell me how inconvenient it is for them. The next time I hear that, I am going to tell them it is inconvenient to get my plane out of a tree and go to the hospital too!

Cheers...Rob

Dang Rob, you're becoming quite the airport baron. A place at Pacific City and a farm runway. What's next, another place on a big city runway?

Re: Hay field landing.

Question Rob: What is he farming? It looks like a nursery in the picture which wouldn't work with my idea, but.....part two of my question: If it's hay, then can't he still farm rectangles while keeping a shaved diagonal runway in the middle that he can drive over in exchange for water??

I ain't no farmer but just got that ideer on ma own  . And I get to land there if my idea works  .

Good Luck. Looks awesome no matter what.

Yes y'all can land at your own risk. It is not a strip! It is not a strip! It is not a strip!

The farmer has cover crop on it now and I can do what you suggest. His real plan is nursery stock. He has land all around the area, half of them are odd shapes due to creeks, timber, roads, steep gullies. He can farm rectangles but he doesn't want to. That is where the water comes into play. Check Mate!

It feels like I am inching too. People who know me know I am persistent.
