Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

The discussion about wearing a helmet has been posted numerous times. It comes and goes like the tide.

It's truly a no brainer for the type of flying many like to do. Far to many nose overs happen without discussion and often times many of those leave pilots with a new war wound or a real good headache. Ultimately finding these lives very lucky.

The FAA claims that many of the fatalities in Alaska from plane accidents could have been prevented had the pilot been wearing a helmet.

I have personally witnessed more nose overs and / or accidents that left the pilot wishing he had a helmet. It's time you get yours. No joke.

Yesterday I purchased the PilotX from Bonehead. It fits great, its comfortable and the quality is superb. No excuses. Go get yours!

This is not me but it's a very close friend. A helmet would have prevented this. It made for a real reality check as to what we are doing. It doesn't matter who it is. Don't even ask.

The name fits for most of us as well

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

I bought a Bonehead PilotX last winter, it is a very quality helmet. I have heard enough stories about scalp lacerations. The price of the helmet was similar to a Bose or Lightspeed headset. I tried a demo with ANR, but in the end went with the CEP option instead. I preferred the sound quality of the CEP over the ANR, but that is just my personal experience.

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

Pretty rad brain bucket! For those balking at the price, here is a decent alternative, though definitely less protective...

PT A-Bravo Half-Shell. Comfortably and functionally fits DC's, Bose & Lightspeed. $61

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

I already have a helmet, thank you. What I'm in the market for is a high-quality, ANR-equipped co-pilot helmet that will fit a range of head sizes, so I can loan it out to different pax. Any recommendations?

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

Thanks for posting this and for the link to the helmet in question. I need to make this happen. Like Denalipilot, I also want to find something for my passengers, but obviously one size does not usually fit all. Open to ideas on that one, for sure.

I changed the image embed to a link because I was sick of looking at it while eating lunch.

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

Anybody use one of these in an open cockpit?... or have recommendations for something that would work well in an open cockpit?

Agreed, should be part of any serious back country flying where the risk is higher than your average municipal airport pattern. I'll definitely use some kind of helmet with the little ultralight I'm putting together.

In my line of work we wear these protech's with NVG's and Bose A20's. Everything fits fine and it offers protection over nothing. Maybe something to consider if you already have an ANR you like

Re: Helmet Purchased. Time to get yours

I like using my Zulus, so I use the Sport Link Detach ($300). It's a little top heavy though. I'd like something a little more integrated with better side protection.
