4Whitey wrote:Kevin, the traditional military style aviation helmets have a visor cover to help protect the visor from scratches and finger prints. I looked at the Bonehead website and didn't see any kind of visor cover. I'm curious, how does the Bonehead helmet protect the visor? I really like that the Bonehead is a more compact helmet...keeps you from feeling like this guy.

Visor has a Velcro scratch protector that attaches to both sides very easily

If it looks smooth, it might be. If it looks rough, it is...www.bigtirepilot.com ...www.alaskaheliski.com
So I just noticed this earlier post showing the Bonehead Aries with integrated visor and cover.
The Aries has optional air vents for another $200 on top of the $1,495 base price. Seems like a lot of $ for a few extra holes in the shell... Although, I imagine a non-vented helmet could get pretty hot and sweaty in warmer climates so maybe it's worth the cost.

I use a Flycom helmet in an open cockpit. The audio is great. It is very comfortable with something like memory foam inside. It could be a little bulky for some situations.

I just put my HGU-26/P helmet up for sale in the Marketplace forum. I don't mean to spam but thought it would be relevant to the thread.

I have about 5 hours on my helmet. Love it. Very comfortable. The helmet shell and zulu2 earcups/electronics are awesome. Better than my PFXs for noise. Will have to wait for summer to see how warm it is.

I ordered a ProTec helmet last August and it still has not gotten here. Seems like a pathetic company to me.

NaomiWagner,
Do you represent the Aries manufacturer or are you a dealer?

Got my MSA Gallet LH250 from Tiger Performance last month. Build quality is good and it's fits well. I've worn it for 4-5 hours at a time and haven't had any problems. I went with the Bose insert.
It is a little heavy (maybe I'm a wimp). Had a bit of a neck ache the first few days I wore it, but it doesn't seem to be a problem any longer. I like the dual visors. I went with a smoke for the outer and the yellow for the inner. They do make a difference on those cloudy or sunny days.
Feel a little funny when my students (or my wife) aren't wearing one, but hopefully they will follow my example and purchase one for themselves in the future.

How many of you guys that bought helmets are still wearing them? I'm planning to order a Bonehead PilotX before my first flight in the Bearhawk so am curious about any lessons learned.

I've had mine for maybe 7-8 years. I don't wear it every flight. I do wear it often in winter for warmth, and also rationalizing that the stakes of hitting your head go up when it's -20 outside. I will wear it if I'm going someplace "sporty", and I wore it frequently when my FWF was brand-spanking new. In general if I'm going someplace where I feel a helmet might figure large, I don't bring passengers along unless they also have one. Ideally I'd like to have a loaner helmet for those situations, but the sizing makes it complicated. I used to have one of those David Clark half-shells that I picked up used, but I gave it away- it just wasn't on par.

I wear mine every time I fly, zero exceptions. My other headsets are crap so that makes the choice even easier.

I always wear my helmet in the Husky. I rarely wear it in the sky wagon. However, I recently did a trip in the wagon and made enough off airport landings that I should have been wearing it.
