I need a good title for a writing essay on my first solo. Can some of you guys give some suggestions? The current one is "Freedom from Earth."

"Take Me Home Pilot",
that's what my instructor said as he got back in the plane after I made my first solo. What did yours say?

mine would read "Takeoff from Taxiway Alpha". Was so nervous I mistakenly took off from the taxiway instead of the runway. Realized it just as I was about at flying speed so just kept going. Oops.

I'd borrow a line from John Gillespie Magee, Jr's Poem "High Flight" - the line I'd chose would be the first line of the poem: " I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth". That poem (actually a sonnet) was penned after a flight in a Spitfire Ml I, and that isn't bad company to keep.

And by the way, congratulations on your solo. A door has opened up for you that can provide surprises and rewards for a lifetime. Approached properly, it is a door to more learning, because most of us pilots never achieve the perfection we aspire to. That is part of what makes flying so addictive - you always know you can make improvements.

How about "First Solo: Wheels Leaving the Ground"?
Congratulations, BTW!

Hey I like "I have slipped the surly bonds of earth" but it is for a collage writing essay so I would be under plagiarism.
I soloed in Feb of 2012 I got my ppl in feb of 13 so it was a bit back. BTW I took my check ride in a tailwheeler! C-170

How about: "I too have slipped the surly bonds of earth" - that is a clean segue from the original, but still let's you tie into some of that history if you choose to do so.

Or you could really be dramatic and user my tagline: "Por mares nunca dantes navegados.". That is a quote from Cristopher Columbus as he set sail from Portugal a few years ago. It loosely translates into "over oceans heretofore uncrossed".

On my first solo after takeoff all I could think of was, "Oh crap now I have to land can't stay up here forever".

Just after my first landing on my first solo, all I could think of was, "God Almighty--I have to pee!!!!" Not that you'd want to use that as your title, of course.
