I had one 1,100 hour year almost 10 years ago now. That dropped off to 600-700 hours a year when the price of gold dropped. I managed to get 800 in 2016, so it's on the upswing! Have a great and safe 2017 everyone!

Okay, so how many diapers did you change in 2016? BTW, that's the best excuse ever for lack of flying. Worth it.

I'm hoping to break 300 in 2017.

Wow, that IS a good year. Im jealous. Keep it up.

About 85 hours for me although it feels like a lot more. Trouble is, my favorite place to fly to (San Juan Islands) is only about 10-15 minutes flying from here. If the question was "how many takeoffs and landings?" ..then I would likely be up there. Anyway, this year I should get more flying in. Made a couple a trips to Cavanaugh Bay, but want to see more of Idaho. Happy New year all...

Re: How many hours did you fly in 2016? (Poll)

Checked my logbook for 2016

112hrs
246 landings

..combine those for how many smiles it produced

....combine those, multiple by 3, and then add a 0 for how many hours I spent working on, modifying, doing maintenance, changing things, new upgrades etc.

......combine those, multiple by 10, and then move up to the next unit for how many hours I spent thinking about / researching and reading about airplanes and flying in 2016

Pretty damn good year of flying though I must say.... 3 fly-ins, couple other cross country trips and some good off airport fun in a handful of different locations!!! :)

Zero. Not even as a passenger

Just saving up some money and enjoying some other hobbies before I jump back into the aviation world.

Thanks! I just got Hughes Net internet where I'm living at the moment. So, I'll fire up the laptop and check in more often. I sold my plane last year and haven't flown forever now, so I really don't have much to contribute.

Very happy to hear from you! Happy New Year!

About 106hrs in rental 182s and 172s in 2016. Started the year as a new PPL with 50 hours TT. Moved from Kentucky(500') to Colorado (5300') which as a low time pilot pretty much had me re-learning to land. Started and completed my IFR rating and high performance endorsement.

An awesome year of flying. Guess I'm still in "the honeymoon phase".

Re: How many hours did you fly in 2016? (Poll)

Someone posted early on about no longer logging time. I log now as a flying diary as much as anything. I haven't totaled my logbook in about three years, but I enter all the flights (adventures). I like finding some gem from the past buried in the pages.

This past year I got to bounce around in the new to me Bearhawk about 150 hrs and that gave my poor little RV6 a break with just over 100 hrs on it. Life is good!

Fiddler wrote:About 330 as well. Should log hour 800 TT today. Almost entirely from the seat of the 120. Slow airplanes...the hours add up quicker I guess.

Also flew 330.
Highlights: Johnson Creek, San Juan Islands, and completing landing in all lower 48. AK this year, I hope.
Been pondering a faster plane, but when you consider the cost, fewer camping options, and the probability of fewer flying hours I may just stay with what I have.

Me too. It's lasted more than 44 years, though.

Re: How many hours did you fly in 2016? (Poll)

65.5 hours for me and approximately 140 landings, most of which were off airport. It's a drop in the bucket compared to many here, but last year was my first year of true backcountry flying after nearly two decades of averaging >10 hours/year while barely remaining current flying from airport to airport. I fell back in love with flying over the past two years and, thankfully, am becoming a much better pilot for it.

In those 65 hours I had the great joy of having my first two successful self-piloted hunts and explored a lot of places that I've only looked at on maps previously. I still see flying primarily as a way to get to where I start hiking, but man, I sure am loving the process of getting there a lot more than I used to. I sure am hoping to get my first ski flying in this winter, but regardless, here's to more hours and more adventures in 2017!

I wish my flying depended on the price of gold, it's more closely tied to the corn and cattle market.
