Good eye.
The device in the back is called a “rigger” and it’s basically a double acting cartridge spring. There is a front safety cable and if go to the Ski section of AC43.13 it shows a diagram of of how to rig the nose ski and how to strap the front safety cable to the shock strut/fork so it doesn’t whip around.
If you zoom in on mine you will see it. I used a custom bungy cord I made up.
To be honest if the rigger broke and the nose ski went nose down I figure all bets are off if one was up in the air, if one hit hard enough to break it on the ground I’m thinking yard sale
One more thing, the rigger on mine is not the original per the airglas stc, back when I did mine Gary L couldn’t find one and didn’t recall who made them and he could t find any drawings etc. I ended up using one others were using for a 182/206, it was used as the federal main wheel ski shock.
