Re: Northwest get togethers

We had a great fly in. BCPers Rob, Terry, Chad, Dave, Ken, Alex, John, Lora Lee, Craig, Eric. Plus we had some friends from MCMinnville who are not on BCP but we know them. There was a fire department bar b q Saturday and Sunday at the airport as a fund raiser. Great food too. Just the right temp for camp fires on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning.

John, thanks for the IFR pointers, Lora Lee for the spaghetti, Alex for the swirling, gusting x wind landing demonstration. Let er buck! ride em cowboy!!

Roughing it.

Do I take it back for dinner? It's not green like my hot dog. Toss up, went for the hot dog.

The morning low clouds are back. Nothing to do but hike to Manzanita for breakfast. Life is hard.

Re: Northwest get togethers

Eric,
Thanks for the Maule introduction, you have a nice plane and handle it very well!

Craig,
Glad you made it home ok! I was worried you would try to land on the beech at high tide to shed the green dog. :o

I wasn't too worried. I keep my immune system healthy and active by frequenting one of the many "Roach Coach" food carts :-&

Eric,

you still gonna head to Moose this fall? Might head up there with my pops in a week or two.

Orcas thread from last years mini fly-in.

Are there any fire pits or barbecues nearby, if not at the airport itself?

Re: Northwest get togethers

no firepits as far as I know. There are none in the tie down area and I don't remember seeing any walking away from the airport to town.

Down by the beach there probably are places for a fire.

My fishing trip with Dad fell through so at this point there are no plans to make it there. Let me know how your trip goes, just in case I can squeak out a trip this year. I heard from Resky that you can barrow picnic tables from the guard station, their way of a comprimise for burning the old ones that were there I guess. :^o Anyway, get them to help you carry one down to your camp site. They, volunteers from the IAA, just moved the outhouses and camping area and I heard they did a good job.

Re: Northwest get togethers

Moose Creek: At the time of the work party to move the outhouses, the FS had put a few "fire pits" around the new camp area. These are the steel type with 3 legs. These camping accommodations are a trial for this summer. At the end of the summer, the Forest Service will evaluate how the new system worked and go from there.

I heard one comment that the desire of the pilots are to have "Primitive" camping facilities and that desire was one of the reasons for the removal of the picnic tables. I urge everyone that has an opinion, write them down on both the guest register and the FS cards at the information board. This goes for all the strips, not just Moose Creek, as this is one way the Forest Service evaluates user desires. The cards don't ask questions for aircraft ops specifically, but comments on aircraft operation and desires can be made on them. Hopefully, enough comments will be made, and picnic tables will be provided in the new area sometime in the future.

Re: Northwest get togethers

I picked up a small folding BBQ last weekend for the Orcas fly-in Aug 7-8.
I think it can handle 6 or 7 people without too much trouble. Maybe not all at once.

I'll marinade up some meat for shish-kabobs.

What color will they be? Not green I hope.
Saturday, on the way up, I thought I might hit the Oyster feed at Willapa Harbor for lunch. Anyone else going?

Me and James may still be flying around Idaho. If the wx looks good I may see if he wants to head over. I like the idea of the oyster feed. I'll be in touch.

Cheers...Rob

I'll bring some cut up veggies and boil in bag rice to go with the Kabobs.
Does anyone remember how long a walk it is to town? For beer of course. 8)

Very short. Prob 1/8 mile.

I want to make this badly, but it looks like there's a commitment in the books that we've had for a few months.

Have fun guys. Take your warm clothes. It really cooled down at night when I was there last, and that wind starts to feel very chilly.
