Were they other pilots/aircampers?

I'm guessing not. The one downside of Tieton is it's right next to a regular campground open to the unwashed masses, aka anyone who's not a pilot. :) I don't think there's a campground host anywhere nearby either.

It can get noisy. When I was there, between the campers and what I think may be a bible camp nearby blaring music, it was fitful sleeping, though it did settle down eventually. I'm sure they were fine with me departing at 6 or 7 in the morning. Good for them I didn't have unmuffled pipes and an 80inch prop, I might have made a pass or two.

(I wouldn't because I care about our image as pilots).

Maybe we should change that one to Stehekin or Mazama? I thought Tieton looked really cool, but I didn't know that it's right next to a campground for mere mortals. We go to Nehalem and McKenzie bridge, but those don't ever seem to be problematic even though they are slackcountry.

Re: NW Get togethers 2011

I agree, spending the night at Tieton is not my idea of a good time.

I went in there last summer and talked to a couple that had spent the night. There were boom boxes and fights all night. They were really happy to get the hell out of there the next day.

I think Stehekin would be a great choice. There is a great camping area down by the river with carts to haul your gear. If you want to go to town for meals there is a bus that runs down the road or loaner bikes are usually available.

Since boat, plane, foot, or horse are the only means of getting there the night is pretty tranquil. Lots of firewood ( assuming no fire restrictions) and good water.

Either of those would be fun to try, particularly Stehekin.

Or we could just bring Rob and his dinner bell.

Re: NW Get togethers 2011

Sounds like we should change Tieton to Stehekin (6S9). That is good with me, there are some other strips up there I'd also like to look at anyway. I would hate to keep the neighbors up with our night life.

Stehekin sounds great, Tieton will probably be a fire camp anyway by the end of July.

Erik:

Another place I've been told is good and I want to look at is Sullivan Lake N. of Deer Park. Tieton is fun to fly-in for lunch but avoid it for the PM. Enjoying the G23!!

Re: NW Get togethers 2011

FYI

Sept 10-11 is OPA annual mtg at Sunriver this year and Rod Machado is coming for seminar. Guess I'll have to give up McKenzie this year and go for Stehekin and Nehalem. I'd encourage all Oregon pilots to join OPA.

Re: NW Get togethers 2011

Thought I would pop this back to the top of Latest Topics:

Here are the dates for the summer outings. I moved the San Juans up to hopfuly get some better weather, and added Stehekin.

July 8-10 San Juans (KORS)
July 22-24 Stehekin (6S9)
August 19-21 Nehalem Bay (3S7)
September 9-11 McKenzie Bridge (00S)

Here is the link to last years thread.
If your going camping this summer and want to invite others along, this thread is a great place to post it. If you want to be by yourself, now you know where not to go when. :)

Maybe Theresa and I will fly the Bonanaza to Orcas this weekend. San Juans are a great place to be when it's cookin' inland  It's supposed to be hot Saturday and Sunday. Who's in for Orcas?

I don't have access to a plane this weekend due to others going to Arlington. I'll try to make some of the others.

This weekend I'll be finishing up the last of the grunt work from the annual so no Orcas for me.

Stehekin is on my calendar circled, highlighted, and with arrows pointing to it.

BTW, for those thinking about coming to the Stehekin Fly-In.

Bring bug dope!! Save your blood for the Red Cross.

The wet Spring has created a perfect mosquito breeding environment. By the river tends to be less bad than at the strip or on the river trail on the West side of the river.
