I wish, that would be fun. But taking time off in Alaska in the summer when you work and live here is not easy...lots to do...so I couldn't have gotten the time off. And I probably better save up after the last adventure.

Re: OK, I've Read Through All 10 Pages, PA-22 or C-172

Iceman,

Good to hear. I'm likely to buy one within the next year. Even got the wife convinced it's a good idea. Leaning toward a metalized one if I can find one since tie downs are more in my price range than hangers. Any thoughts on metalized vs fabric other than the obvious ones of weight, fabric replacement, etc?

Thanks.

Re: OK, I've Read Through All 10 Pages, PA-22 or C-172

Just a quick follow up. After a bunch of reading, looking and soul searching I ended up with a '56 straight tail 172. About 470 SMOH on a field approved O-300D replacement motor with key start, vacuum pump and alternator. Plane has less that 5,000 TT. Was looking at a few tripacers including a very nice '57 with wing mods and a sea plane door (more than 2X the $$ that I paid for the 172), but the deal on the straight tail was too good to pass up. Still have the 150G which my buddy will buy when his daughters get out of college in a couple of years. Looking forward to some flying this fall. Rhinebeck Aerodrome this Sunday.

I'll post a couple of pictures after I get it cleaned up.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

Frank

Congratulations! Sounds like you got a good plane.

Have fun at Old Rhinebeck! I have many fond memories of flying down to that place from Vermont in my New England days.

Great news Frank! I'm sure you'll be a whiz in no time. I got a little time in a 172 a couple months ago, which reminded me that 4 hours in a 172 really doesn't help me to feel like I can operate it well...compared to over 600 in a PA-22...

That's awesome, sounds like you got a great plane. Looking forward to some pictures. For me at least, buying our little airplane has been a life changing event (in a good way). We've already had so many adventures as I am sure you will too.

Won the free biplane ride at Rhinebeck yesterday. A beautiful old 1929 New Standard D-25. Pretty cool ride in a beautiful open cockpit airsheen (as Clouddancer would say).
