Glad to know I'm not the only one who got wife's approval for the engine monitor

Re: P206A mummy restoration

Installed some radio/GPS racks today and put the panels in to test fit. Pilot side sub panel is pretty much done and won't be coming out anymore. Still not sure on the engine monitor, but if it's a MVP-50 it will go to the right of the radio rack, if its CGR-30 combos it will be directly left of the radios, I'll punch another hole under the one that's there and mount them on top of each other. Leaning this way right now as they have a better rebate on the combos right now.
And no I'm not putting a KY 97 in, just used it for rack placement. Probably going to end up with a Garmin GTR 225.

Re: P206A mummy restoration

A bit more progress. Found some fuel gauges to use for now until I can splurge for some nicer ones. Radio, tranponder, intercom, and 796 in. RH panel is also in for good. I need to build something for around the passenger yoke shaft, still thinking on it. Wires have been bundled up since the picture, and most of the wiring is done. Still a couple pieces of insulation to go in down by your feet and on the firewall.
Got most of my engine parts together, new engine driven pump and injection, some elbows and induction to convert it to an A/F engine. Airbox is out getting an O/H.
Slowly making progress. Image

dogpilot wrote:I am probably a little late on this suggestion. I put the 796 to the left of the traditional stack position and the MVP on the top of the stack. Why, well the engine instruments are rather important, especially if your contact flying, low or STOL. The 796 is very readable from 4 inches further away. I made a very simple adjustable angled mount so it would tilt towards me out of four pieces of angled aluminum and a left over long threaded knob from a yoke mount. The whole arrangement worked out super.

That's a great idea! For now I'm just going to go with a CGR-30P that will go in the top RH hole in my pilot side panel. If I ever upgrade to a MVP-50 I will probably put it above the stack and move the 796 over. Wont be that hard to do.
Thanks!

Re: P206A mummy restoration

Only thing I would change about my panel is the MVP.
It’s on co pilot side and I wish it was closer.

Re: P206A mummy restoration

Man, my progress has been slower then anticipated. I guess that's what happens when you have a full customer load and move to a new hangar halfway through.
Anywho, this isolation thing has seemingly given me more time to work on the plane. Wings are back on, flaps and one aileron went on yesterday. Took the flap rollers apart and cleaned them up rather then putting new ones in. New flap cables are in and flaps are rigged, and new aileron cables are in. Should have the second aileron installed this week once I get another annual completed. Have a line on a decent priced 3 blade Hartzell. Not my prop of choice, but price is right. Also, ended up going with a CGR30P, which is mostly installed now.

What's a Mummy restoration? I have heard the term before but no idea what it is.

Very nice. I like the carbon fiber panel. DG is nice also, what kind is it?

Thank you, it's been a lot of work.
Its a RC allen 1510. I really like it. Super easy install, internal magnetometer, easy calibration on the first flight, and looks close to the old school one.

A few questions on the carbon fibre: how thick, how did you put the bend in, any trick to drill or saw?

It's just a vinyl wrap on the aluminium panel that I hand cut. Super easy to work with. I couldn't get a straight answer on the legalities of a completely CF panel, and I'm happy with this.

Re: P206A mummy restoration

Well, I am quite happy these days. Got my prop on Friday night and buttoned a few things up Saturday. Then had to try to see if she'd make it back into the air. All I can say is that I am extremely happy with the performance. My limited 206 time is in heavier/newer 206s, one with a TSIO540. This thing spanks it off the ground. It actually caught be by surprise how she just jumped off the ground and climbed.
Today I put it on scales. I was hoping to be around 1850 lbs, but in reality I was thinking I'd be lucky to be under 1900 as a lot of 180/182/185 are heavier then that. Again, extremely happy to report that with all 6 seats in place it weighs in at 1846.7Lbs! This will come down a bit once I reupholster the seats. Thanks for coming along for the ride, glad to have another bird back in the air where it belongs. ImageImage

Re: P206A mummy restoration

Man, its been a while since I've posted about this old girl. Life has changed a lot for me since 2020! I've put about 400 hrs on her now and man do I love this plane. But since I can't leave well enough alone, and had shoulder surgery this winter so I couldn't do much work, I tinkered on her. Panel revision #4 is now installed. This includes dual G5s and a GFC500 autopilot, driven by a GTX375 that was part of revision #3 last winter. I first thought I'd be happy with a single G5 ADI and having my AV30 underneath as a DG. That lasted all of a couple hrs and I ordered another G5 to have the full HSI setup. I've flown about 5 hrs with the setup in the last week and am very happy with it.

Happy enough to flight plan to Barbados and back?
Nice setup. I've been surprised by the interface on the 375/gfc500 combo - easier than expected for input on the small screen.
