It's not there anymore. It disappeared, or they just moved it and I haven't found it yet, sometime in the last 12 months.

Ran into this guy while visiting with the Lee County Sheriff's Department aviation unit at Buckingham Field in FORT Myers. Was used for mosquito control control for many years. Now it's just for parts to keep their remaining two flying.

Bart,

Is the Fairchild PT-23 you showed still owned by the United States Airpower Museum in Fresno or is it just abandoned?

Seattle Museum of Flight might be interested in it if it is going to rot.

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

The plane at Birchwood was built by a very intelligent man. My source for his name is out of the shop at this time. The wings where modified to mimic the flukes on whales. The plane was for sale, but I don't think it sold. The wings where removed this fall and it has been moved to a home off runway.

Can't answer that Tom, but I could put you in touch with somebody who might know, if you're interested. PM me for a contact.

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

There's several warbird museums in the Puget Sound area that might be interested.
Historic Flight Foundation & Flying Heritage Collection, both at KPAE.
Also Heritage Flight Museum at KBVS.

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

Saw a nicely painted old C180 on the ramp at Bremerton KPWT yesterday.
Not a ramp queen by any means, but I did notice some cobwebs between the LH gear legs and the lower cowl. Snapped a photo of them but they didn't show up very well.

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

Here's a few pics of a ramp mummy (ramp baby?) rescue... This one sat outside for years until I bought it from NZ's equivalent of ebay. Half a day's work, an oil change, fuel and a fresh battery and away we went complete with mold, moss and a couple thousand spiders. I've been flying it for around 5 years now and recently gave it a birthday. It's a hoot to fly and I've got a Sportsman kit to go on at some stage. More hp would be good but I quite like the O-200

Only 4 years old in 1968!

It sat outside at Ardmore for some years. It's amazing what can grow on and in a plane!
Image

Finally back in a hangar
Image

Fortunately the engine had been inhibited and cylinders weren't too rusted
Image

Stop for fuel on the way home
Image

A bit of work and an Annual Inspection later
Image

Early this year we finally found time to clean up the corrosion, tidy the paint and add some racing stripes

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

Nice save, and good looking C150TD!
With the square tail & omnivision, it's a D or E model.
My last plane was a 150D taildragger with the Lyc 320 conversion.
It was a nice flying airplane, the added power just made it perform better.
Hope you have as much fun with yours as I did with mine. =D>

Thanks guys, yep it's a D model. One of four that came to New Zealand new in 1964, all four are still here and I believe three still airworthy
