The IA owner was in the process of restoring it, but passed away a couple of years ago, never having completed it. Not sure who owns it now. Would be neat if it was up flying around the Selway again someday, but for now at least it just has to look West and soak it in....

Haha...both of those airplanes were shoehorned into the hangar I bought last year. It took several fairly intelligent people about an hour to figure out how to get two airplanes out of a T-hangar that barely has space for one airplane. Once they figured it out they told me what to do...

I put a lot of hours on N16173 when dad owned it, hate to see it setting like that.

I did make contact with the previous owner of this plane eventually, we couldn't come to agreeable terms though unfortunately. It was sold and trucked away for repair I'm assuming. Glad it slipped the mummy grasp...

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

These seasonal ramp draggers do look cool, even with a slant tail.

You mean the ventral fin? Wipline and aerocet floats require a small ventral fin on the belly while EDO floats do not.

Not quite. EDO 2960s on a 180 with the low dorsal require a ventral fun.

The ventral fin is only required on the 73 and 74 models.

Geeez, we’re a couple of picky bastards, eh Kurt?

Oh yeah, and Hotrod, the early model year 64 180s only had two side windows.

Mike, I know because I got caught up in this requirement with my '74. Damn, are you serious was my response when I had to go find a fin. That was a pain. I had to stay legal so there was no option for me.

Re: Photo thread: Ramp Mummies

My CAP floats STC requires a Ventral fin. I have a LSTC to remove the ventral fin. In fact, it was sequenced so that it was never installed.

Had to install a ventral fin when I installed the Aerocet amphibs. Had to look away when we drilled the holes for it.

All correct, except that Cessna built “a few” E model 180s in 1964.....with two side windows. I flew one for a year or so.

Thread Jumpstart...

This Baron has been parked at KMEV and not flown for the 18 years I have been here. Every few years it’ll have to be moved and usually need rotted tubes and tires changed out.
