Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Just when I thought flight training was as perpetual as going to college, son Josh brings home a PPL =D>

With commercial aspirations on the horizon, finding a time builder became a necessity. Looked at a lot of junk before finding this one.
Didn't know squat about Tcarts, but think we'll probably get her figured out. This one oughta fit the bill nicely :)

Congrats, and beautiful Taylorcraft. 65 Hp, or ??. Fantastic time builder IMO. The manual says to keep the brace wires on the tail "tuned to a low bass note". Always liked that spec.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Yeah, I know floatsnskis. That's what I say now, but I know that when I'm faced with the decision, I won't want to get rid of any of them, specially the Stearman. I do love flying that bird. Was yours a 220, 300 or 450?

By the way, how is it like flying in Sweden??

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

PatinLoco, I had a Lyc 300 which I loved. More power than the standard 220/225, so good for aerobatics, but not as big as the P&W450 which I think looks too big. One can never have enough power of course! The Lyc300 was absolutely bullet proof. And with the 9 cylinders it was smooth too. Hardly leaked oil. The engine came from Don Sanders at Sanders Airmotive, a master piece!

I haven't flown that much in Sweden yet, but it reminds me a lot of the Pacific NW. The Stockholm archipelago looks and feels like the San Juan Islands. Winters are a lot colder though and there's definitely a lot more snow. It is one of the few countries left in Europe where seaplanes can land wherever they wish (kind of...). If ever you're in Sweden let me know and I'll take take you up in the 206 on floats!

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Yeah floatsnskis, the 450 is a BIG engine, and I love it? I have flown several 220s, but never a 300. It would seem to me to be perfect engine for the Stearman. I feel the 220 is a bit weak for aerobatics, IMO. But, all you need to do is look at John Mohr do awesome aerobatics to wonder if I use a 450 because I'm not as good as he is?!?!?!?

Scandinavia is in my short list of places I need to go before they put in an old folks home. If, and when I'm in the area, I will definitively come by and get that ride. I'm seaplane rated, so that would be a trip for me. Thanks for the offer!

Great looking Carbon Cub Captain!

I expect to see this at the UAL terminal under the wing of a 777 as you commute to work.

I am with AA.

Are you swinging the compass in the bottom picture?

Very nice Bhawk!!! Look forward to the flight reports. Is that a fixed pitch on that 540?

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

The plane is at MGG. It does have a 540 on it with a Catto fixed pitch prop. So far it seems to be a good combination. Empty wt came in at 1366 which I think is the lightest with a 540 in it except for Bobs 540 bearhawk

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Well after selling the Citabria I was on the hunt for a nice "old" 182. It didnt take long before my searches led me back to a Maule. For the money, there was a massive difference in the age, performance, and avionics between the two. And just so you know insurance didnt kill me either. 160TT, 100 Tailwheel, and 0 in type ($1800/yr).

Anyway, cant wait to get some hours in the seat and have some fun.
