There's a young gal who was in the news (aviation news anyway) a while back who has no arms, who earned her pilots license in an Ercoupe. She now earns a living as a motivational speaker. If she can do it with no arms, I guess it can be done OK with one arm & a hook.

I can't remember his name, but I remember meeting a really nice guy at an aerobatics competition my grandpa was flying in. I can't remember what class he competed in either, but he had no hands - just a couple of prosthetics.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

8 week check with the doc. He wasn't all happy with what he saw. He said it was a bad tear and for 6 months he won't get real worried. He said a cortisone injection would help so I did one today. That is not my idea of fun.

So the journey to recovery full continues.

Cheers...Rob

Doing great, can touch the ceiling with it without any pain!! Can reach behind my back and scratch it!!
Only real stumbling block is reaching out at arms length straight out at shoulder level, like reaching across the pickup bed and pulling something heavy while you are bent sideways to reach it.
Scared hell out of me a week ago, felt something move or give in there!!!!!
Was pretty tender for a couple of days!!
Good luck GT

I was pulling a Cub up a slope with a tailwheel towbar. Tailwheel popped out and I fell backwards on my elbows, tearing rotator cuffs in both shoulders. Elected to recover without surgery. Took about a year to fully regain full motion without pain. Toughest thing for me during that year was handpropping the Cub.

I had multiple old injuries in my shoulder too. If it wasn't for the fact I tore the bicep tendon off the bone I would have done what you did Jim. Surgeons can do amazing work. 100 years ago we would be screwed.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

Update: I am now back to 75% of my normal. Before surgery I was maybe 50% I fly as good as ever and pull the tow bar fine. I expect to be back to 100% by July.

I am working through a frozen shoulder in part of my range of motion. The doc has given me 1 more month then he will do a little tune up with the scope. He said that should not effect my medical. I wear this stretching device 30 minutes 3x a day. It is really helping.

Screw that hill climbing on the dirt bike. Time to change my behavior. haha

Hi Rob,
Your on the road to recovery. I had both of mine done. The right one done three times and the left two times.
Right elbow 4 times and left elbow two times. I missed a lot of flying time but didn't let it slow me down.
Take your time and let it heal right. Good luck my friend.

Glad to see your still with us!!! Some times, they medicate the patient and "manipulate" the shoulder to get past the range of motion from a frozen shoulder. I am glad to hear he set a time line for action. I am pulling for you to get that range without any more problems!!!

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

The range of motion has not got back where it needs to be. When I return from socal, Az trip the surgeon is going in again to cut the scar tissue that is causing the problem. The repair should be as strong as it will be, so when he cuts the scar I'll be in rehab the next day and every day after that for like 2 weeks. I have heard you have 99% ROM the next day.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery: grounded 8-10 weeks

Rob I feel your pain. I'm on day 70 of no fly, work, walk, or drive. I have got another month to go. The no fly/drive thing is really a pain.
I get driven to the grocery store occasionally for supplies.
