Re: "Save the Bacon Strip" campaign

Got your check, OregonMaule. Thanks! Let Charlie know how you want your name to read on the plaque.

Good pics of you at the ranch! Hope you can make it down in October.

Where do you fly out of? Troutdale? I learned to fly out of Pearson and took my Private checkride out of Troutdale. Loved flying in the PNW.

Re: "Save the Bacon Strip" campaign

Hi Rob,

I have you down for 'OregonMaule' but there's room to add to that if you decide. Before the granite plaque goes to the engraver, I'll notify everyone just in case any changes are needed. So far there are 21 names.

On a side note here to everyone:
I realize the back country pilots are a close fraternity, and that is a good thing. I too would be skeptical about some brand new guy talkin' it up (on his first post, no less) about how he's going to rebuild the Bacon Strip shade structure, and how he's looking for help to do it. (Even makes me a laugh a bit now!). And even worse, this new guy flies a C-150 nosedragger! Must be some kind of idiot from the city! Lol.
OK I was, and still am excited about getting the BSR shade structure ('The Bar") back operational. I really like the place, and have experienced some magical Mojave nights there. I hope others get to do that, too.
As far as aircraft go, I drool over you guys' Skywagons, Maule's, and Cubs! I hope to have something in the future that will haul more guns, beer and camping gear, but for now I must do with the 150.
We'll announce an exact date soon for the October Fly -in, but most likely the 2nd or 3rd weekend. Should be fun - camping, barbecuing, bench flying, etc plus some of the standard fly-in awards such as longest distance traveled, best aircraft, etc. Oh, and the main event - the christening of the Bar!

Clear skies,

Re: "Save the Bacon Strip" campaign

For those interested, the Bacon Strip Ranch October Fly-In Campout is officially scheduled for October 13-14th. Of course, if you like, you can start early and arrive friday the 12th.
The official christening of the new (yet to be built) Bar will be held saturday evening. (I've never actually been to a bar christening before and am looking forward to it.)
The Save the Bacon campaign is going well (thanks to many BCP members) and you still have time to get your name (or any name you choose) permanently etched into the commemorative granite plaque that will adorn the new Bar (AKA Club Bacon).

Mojave Ho!

Hey Charlie: are we going to have a fly in again in 2013? I hope your well. I can't find the Facebook page. I think John took it down. Give us an update.

Cheers...Rob

Re: "Save the Bacon Strip" campaign

As an east coaster, I'm not familiar with the Bacon Strip. I searched Facebook for Bacon Strip and Bacon Strip Ranch, but all that came up was a mountain biking group in Nevada called the bacon strip. The images of the strip posted by other BCP members has convinced me it is real, but the reference to a Facebook page didn't turn up anything relevant. Good luck with the project. I'm going to focus any of my charitable giving to projects closer to home, or pilots and paws flights. If I get out west again, I'll try and check out the ranch.

Re: "Save the Bacon Strip" campaign

I will be in the neighborhood at Thanksgiving time after visiting the Saline Valley. Don't see loc. on chart, unless it is the 'U' strip. Distance and azimuth from:

Baker?
Kelso?
Zzyzx?

Thanks,

Ed

Thanks for the link glidegeek. I flew by not far from there on my X/C leg between Visalia, CA and Prescott, AZ. I might have stopped if I had known about the strip before my trip. Lots of little known strips are being added to my wish list.

It's just a little hard pan out in the middle of nowhere hard to see unless you know what to look for.
