Not at all.

Ski areas are a nexus for international social contact.

Consider that all of Colorado's first cases (and a full third of all presumptive cases at the moment) are associated with direct contact with infected persons at ski resorts in the state. This includes bars, restaurants, hook up apps etc. At least part of the rest of the presumptive cases are community spread from these communities. Colorado has an unusually high rate of infection per capita at the moment. This was the evidence that led to the executive order to close ski areas.

Nobody is stopping anyone from putting skins on and enjoying the snow the best way, anyway. And particularly not keeping anyone from boring holes in the sky.

As you say, skin up and go. Now be careful you don't bump into anyone at the fuel pumps

Re: Self-Isolation

Our governor issued an order yesterday closing all restaurants state-wide through the end of the month, effective tonight.
Lotsa of public offices & facilities closed, including library. I'd be surprised if banks don't follow suit.
Next will probably be the grocery stores--
in which case everyone who followed the "don't hoard" advice (including me) will be seriously pissed off.

Maybe over reaction, maybe not,
but I guess it's the logical & safe thing to do.
Sure a PITA though.

Doesn't seem to be in the cards at my local area.It was discussed though. Not any international contact at Pebble Creek, just the occasional Utahan!

A guy I know got caught in an avalanche yesterday, skiing out of bounds in a canyon he has skied for years. He was 60 years old. Pinned against a tree, pretty much over right away I heard from the other two guys with him.. I'm flying later to take some aerials for the record.

That's a tragedy for everyone involved. It hits home. Condolences.

Re: Self-Isolation

Total bummer about the avalanche. Skied this morning, our resort is packed! Left early, too many people. My boys called in from Vancouver, somewhat bummed by Whistler being closed. So they decided to go to a couple of bars, empty. The comment was, "really must be the end of the world if Canadian bars are empty."

Actually did rewatch the first couple of episodes of "Last Man on Earth." Totally cracked up when he made a giant pyramid of toilet paper and set it on fire with a flame thrower. How did they know?

It seems if I want to fly to LAX with the 206, probably wouldn't have any issues at the moment. Looking up in the sky on the lift this morning, clear blue skies, devoid of the usual contrails. You think that the government would be ramping up the chemtrail program at the moment.

Re: Self-Isolation

Just flew home from France half way through my two month skiing there. So glad to be home on my little island in Canada.

That's a good looking fish. Self isolating here.

And the Salmon Flu pandemic begins...

I'm slightly less than gripped with panic for the time being, but then I usually don't come face-to-face with ten people during any given week. I did go to the small town liquor store today and found it well stocked, so either panic-buying hasn't hit that little town, or people's priorities are way off. Water is a fine substitute for TP, but a terrible substitute for something to drink.

Just need to decide whether to go to the USPSA shooting matches that are coming up. On one hand they're outside and the risk of contamination should be pretty small. On the other hand, why increase my human contact by a factor of ten when I can shoot all I want off the front porch?

You know, Hammer... a lot of times I read a post of yours and think you’d be a great guy to sit on the porch with, BS-ing about life and looking for the bottom of a good bottle of bourbon.

Fresh, like an excellent, marbled piece of beef. Not a hint of fish. Frozen, the fish taste seeps in over time but not overpowering. We like to skin then vacuum pack for the freezer. If you like smoked fish, there is no finer salmon for it.

That sounds amazing, I’ll keep an eye out for them next time I visit up north.

Re: Self-Isolation

So we went to "town" today...the 20,000 population town, not the 7,000 population town. Astoundingly enough, the grocery stores were out of toilet paper. What they were not out of, or even close to being out of, was aspirin, cough syrup, tylenol, or food. What the phuck are people thinking?

Seeing an opportunity to relieve my boredom, I loaded a cart up with every Fleet enema on the shelves, then pushed it around until I found a woman engrossed in social media on her phone. Parking next to her I said, in a loud stage whisper, "Can you believe they still have these? I mean, I feel bad for hoarding, but MY family is going to survive this even if others don't." Then I rushed off, and parked the cart in an out of the way isle and resumed stockpiling beer in my real cart.

I can only hope that seed landed in fertile soil...
