Self-Isolation

I'm hoping this self-isolation requirement last a bot longer so I can do my civic duty for the good of all

Re: Self-Isolation

Well, Iran last week was saying nothing to worry about to their citizens, today their digging mass graves the size of football fields and lining the graves with lime. Italy has 100's of people dying everyday, sending the low recovery percentile home to die. Africa has indeed begun to have the spread of the virus, and who is being blamed? The European's traveling there. Since Africa has relatively few world travelers as a percentage of their population, they were fine for awhile.

Sorry, but I don't think it's crazy for people to be half a$$'d responsible and just stay around home if they can until this mess can be figured out. Missing out on skiing for a bit is a small price to pay to potentially avoid killing Grandpa.....

Sorry, i didn't mean to "touch a nerve". I'll go back to my "isolated" beach in Northern Ontario as soon as the ice is out and do my "civic" duty

Hey, can't argue that, "natural causes" and all.....Lol

On a serious note, I work up in the oil sands in northern Alberta. With an anti oil federal gov, hypocritical environmentalist's and fake aboriginal protests, the oil price taking a dump and now the potential of big shutdowns due to this virus and liabilities on site - just not sure how much more we can take. Just crazy

Re: Self-Isolation

Not really trying to touch nerves here, however, it has been shown to keep a good sense of humor is actually the most important survival trait. This was pointed out to us by the Psy-ops experts in SERE School. Personally, I spent 10 years working disasters that where mostly caused by starvation, war and disease in Africa and Central America. In the Juba camp alone, we could lose 1,000 people a week out of 60,000 to actually serious fatal illnesses. Nobody really cared outside the camps.

So those of us in charge, providing the services, kept our sense of humor, lest we went mad. Everybody has their own coping techniques. The experts do say levity is the best psychological health agent. In Africa, it is more like, "thank god, I have Covid19, not Biharzia." Personally I am statistically 8-10 tens more likely to die at my over 60 age from intestinal infections where I travel than skiing. Which BTW, I almost did in 2009, when parasites bored through my large intestines.

So keep smiling and wash those hands, don't touch your eyes. Something we have been doing for decades in relief services. Kind of why my aircraft always had baby wipes in the door pockets. If your unsure how to wash your hands, watch "McBeth." "Out damm spots!"

Re: Self-Isolation

Well you all stay safe out there. Soon this will be like "On the Beach" anybody...anybody out there?

Brilliant reference. Saw that film only once, by accident, on TCM. Bothered me for weeks.

Re: Self-Isolation

The lifties at the ski area are the only close contact I've had the last few days, and that while gloved and goggled, and briefly. It finally got to Idaho so I am now paying more attention. I keep thinking about the big flying J truck stop 10 miles away, that is jammed with Asian tourists during the summer. They fly into SLC and take tour buses up to Yellow and Teton parks. It's a hoot to see a mix of them and regular truckers all standing in line, I suppose that won't be happening this summer. Otherwise, when using the john (or accepting my change from the clerk) in a convenience store I make a real point out of washing my hands and then NOT touching the door handle on the way out, something most probably do anyway of course.

All things considered, up on this mountain top Friday was a good place to be I guess, even though it was very rough taxiing up to a somewhat level place so I could shut down. Then when out, every other step I'd break thru the crust and sink in above my knee, making me real glad I have over sized skis for my light plane..Image

Re: Self-Isolation

FWIW, I think we should thank the poor Chinese schmuck who was the Index case of COVID-19. He or she created yet another meaningful opportunity to test both China's emergency response systems and early warning systems. And in addition, international, national, and local systems. We should THANK China and the unknown Index case. Once the epidemic got going I think China has done a pretty effective job of isolating vectors, which kinda (in a very small way) makes up for the enormity of their total failure to acknowledge (and silencing) of their own medical pros who correctly called the alarm.

Lotsa lessons worth learning, no matter where we live! Where better to contemplate them than in the solitude afforded by open water and a float plane? I'll have to make one of the runways now emerging from winter snow suffice since I'm confined by three wheels. :)

Re: Self-Isolation

Another way to self isolate, assuming the dog is not a carrier anyway. Honestly, I feel lucky to have lots of ways to keep myself entertained that don't involve prolonged close contact with large groups of people. I have crane work tomorrow, but I'll be in my closed cab, and when not, wearing gloves. #-o Image

Re: Self-Isolation

Well, to look at a bright side of this situation - Probably won't see any "climate change" protests for a long time. Enough people will have their daily routines changed and see what a "have not" world actually feels like. Especially when they just can't hop on a jet for vacation. Once the world levels out and starts rebuilding - might actually get a boom. In Canada I bet a lot of the protesters are regretting what they did by blocking rail lines last month and are now out of TP.......LOL

I actually ran out. Who knew? Good thing my condition requires baby wipes anyway. Lots of those still on shelves.
