Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

Wellll, finally got the deal done on the 182. Went to Caldwell, ID. Gonna be a jump plane.

So, I am ready to move on. I would like to stay under $40K, but I can rent out a room if I need to.
I been goin though a lot of mental gymnastics trying figure what would be the best for my next plane.

I would like a plane that weighs 800lbs, flies from 20-200mph, experimental, burns 4gph, for $25K. Might be askin too much
My considerations are: Durability and STOL performance are key. Seating, no deal breakers there. Room for baggage would be nice. Fuel economy.

These are the planes that I am considering

PA18-180 is naturally at the top of the list, but, no doubt, out of my price range. PA14 would also be great.

E-LSA(or atleast experimental) and light as possable has many advantages.
...Rans s7 longtail, Highlander, Kitfox 5-7

Other experimental
....Wagaero Sportsman 2+2, Bearhawk, Bushmaster

Cerified
C-170B/180hp/CSP Really love these planes. A little away from my mission, and also probly out of my price range. But whatever I do will be some sort of compromise. Haven't been interested in doing the conversion. Have found some real nice ones w/O-300, but I think it would be cheaper to find one already done. And, probly still out of my price range.

Early model C-150 Taildragger w/180hp.

Big engine Stinson ????

M4-210/220 Maule

180hp Citabria w/flaps

And, I am open to other possabilities. Don't know much other than the 100 series Cessnas.
Appreciate any leads, prefer to them PM'd to me.

Thanks Gary

Probably "not your mission" plane, but there is a high time
C-170 B with 180 horse constant speed prop on the international
Cessna 170 web site for $34k. Been there a while it could get cheaper.
Granted I wanted it but you must sell to buy. Might look at an interstate L6.
Guy in Blackfoot Idaho had one for sale. 150 horse & flaps.

Tim Boughner @ [email protected], has my old 108-3 220 Frank for sale. He did the conversion and is done with it now. I can account for the last 30ish years of ownership of the bird. Pretty sweet. You gotta like Red tho' :)
You might recognize Tim from his exhaust work with the Maules.

Maybe you have considered it already, but I would suggest looking at an Aeronca Sedan. There are not alot of them around, but they do come up for sale on occasion. I like that they are a tube & fabric fuselage with a metal wing. 145 HP with the stock engine, but some have been converted to 180 HP. They have a big cabin and are easy to fly. Burl's Aircraft provides support.

Here's a link to a Sedan for sale. As is, it may not be set up for serious bush use, but looks like it's in nice shape.
http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/Single+Engine+Piston/1949/Aeronca/15+AC+Sedan/1388317.html

And here's a link to a great site with alot of information and a nice picture gallery.

I would think that anybody considering a 170 or PA-14 would do well to consider a Sedan. Just another option.

The Taylorcraft 15 was also an attempt to duplicate the performance and utility of the Stinson.

Gary,
Not sure if you have already ruled out a Pacer, but a good, light PA22/20 with 150/60hp and a borer prop with big tires makes a pretty good "poormans" supercub. Plus you can put more in them and with the back seat out, they have a really big bag door. There are more and more approved mods and a lot of the bush companies are makeing great products for them to outfit them for off-airport work.

Just another option.

Not sure what the price tag is, but it looks like a heck of a backcountry plane.

I saw a price tag somewhere and it was well within 6 digits if I recall.

Edit, here it was, $125k.

It may all add up to 125K but hasn't this guy found out yet nobody is refinancing their house to buy a toy like that. Or maybe it is on the market to make his wife happy.

It's been for sale off and on for over a year at least. 10 more years it might be in my price range...

I don't think it was recommended knowing the price as the ad didn't state....we just got sidetracked discussing it.

I tried getting into a cub today, Kinda like tryin to thred a needle with a rope. Pretty tight fit. It was pretty tough in the Supercub, but I could get better at that.
I really like the PA14 and the Wag Aero 2+2. Those are pretty close to the top of my list of desirable planes for me. Along with the s7 and the Highlander.
And I been playin with the idea of another 170/180hp. Probly just be a matter of where the best deal is first. I am really wanting to get back in the air.

I love Cubs to death, but they are entertaining to get in and out of ever since I got this fancy metal hip. The bigger doors on the CC and the experimentals make all the difference. The 170s are probably the easiest on our lists for me to get in and out of and is a big bonus when I'm shopping.

A Murphy Rebel might fit the bill. This one has a unique upholstery theme. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/Sin ... 28956.html

Remember your first girlfriend. Tough getting in the first time.
Putting on a Cub is difficult the first few times, until you get the rhythm of "one leg, butt placement, other leg, swing butt into seat". Then it's easy as "after the honeymoon".

'Course, if you're a gimp like Tadpole w/his rusty hip, it would be harder. :)
