Putting on a Cub is difficult the first few times, until you get the rhythm of "one leg, butt placement, other leg, swing butt into seat". Then it's easy as "after the honeymoon".

'Course, if you're a gimp like Tadpole w/his rusty hip, it would be harder. :)

After the hip there was no getting easier....I've flown lots of freaking Cubs in the last year...well...until I left CC. I've got the rhythm down pat....my hip doesn't...haha!

I was considering some Pa11's. I don't think the performance on those is worth the sacrifice. BUT, the PA18, I am will in to pay the price. Probly have to lose 20-30lbs, but, I would do it for the right deal. Or, atleast try.

Good luck! Prices seem to have dropped some on PA-18s, but not like the rest of the market. I think if I ever end up with one, it'll be one I build.

I'll pray for ya. I've been watching too, but lately I've been looking for a wreck to stick in my garage to give me something to do with my down time.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

Know what you mean ....tried getting into a SC and the guys at the airport were laughing so hard :D :D it looked like a big carp flopping on the ground. It took me 15 minutes to get in the seat.......I figured if I had to do that ever time I wanted to fly, it would get real old fast.
There was a guy on here from Mn who had a Super Champ with a sea door that looked interesting, and if you could put a adjustable (Citabria) frount seat in it ...now it might work. It was for sale last year but don't know if he sold it. I would like to try the S7 as well, haven't gotten close to one yet

Thanks. I saw that. Offered him full price. He thought he made the price to low, wants to turn it into an auction. I called Bullshit and said I didn't want to play the game.
Looked like a great deal if he would have sold it for $25K.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

Here's the message I sent to him:

I can possibly pay $11K in cash now and make twelve payments of $1000, for a total offer of $23,000 over a year. I have a hangar available that the airplane can stay in during that time. If you want to do this please let me know.

Bill

I thought of asking if I could use the airplane to drop Obama leaflets, but perhaps that would be a bit too transparent of a ruse

Good luck Gary. I encourage other BCP members to make similar offers to soften up the guy a little for Shortfielder. May I humbly suggest someone send him a photo of an old beat up motorhome and offer to trade that high-value gem plus several thousand in cash, and some sure-thing stock certificates for the 175. Having an auction for best offer over $25K is one thing, but offering one price then reneging on it to have an auction once someone has offered the original price, that's not cool.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

I don't think he would sell the plane to me for $50K at this point. I told him what I thought. It didn't go well.
On another note, I thought the Auster was pretty interesting. Found one in Norway

sort of like what I experienced when I was looking for my Maule... Guy had a MX7 in arizona ... I asked if it was still available and could I come see it if it was... he said sure.. Flew to Phoenix and checked it out.. offered him his asking price and he then informed me he had a offer from a guy in Minn who had first dibs...I then offered him more than his asking price and he said no...cause the minn. guy would send his mechanic down to Phoenix in 2 months to check it out...He used to be on here at one time.. hasn't posted in years.... so I wasted a trip to Phoenix and a entire day looking at a plane that wan't for sale...

I could tell him I have a Bank Cheque from the Nigerian National bank for $50,000. I can send it to him for full price offer if he will remit the difference to me. I will offer to send my agent to pick up the plane after his cheque clears.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

So I am off to Bend for Chainbeaker XC race next weekend. I think I may head up to Sisters to find out the deal on this 175 for sale. So from what I understand the price is listed at $25k, but the guy won't take that?

IMO the plane isn't worth much more than $15k. It is 2years out of annual and 600+hrs over TBO. You will have an easy $30-35k to do an engine/prop/accessory overhaul. It would be hard to get $45k out of 175 that had a 0 time engine. What do you all think?
