Gary, I'm not sure you can afford this, but it looks like a fun ride.

Not sure anyone can afford that deal. The cub is only 30K. The girl that comes with it is $100K. That's annually. Even if you decide you don't like her, she'll still cost you $50k/yr afterwards. And she get's half you plane! #-o

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

I'm back, and in the hunt. Had a good weekend at Caveman. Met a lot of new fun folks, saw a lot of nice planes.
WW Thanks. There is a nice one in this area for S27.5K
There is also a nice 150/150 for sale for $30K if anyone wants one. Great affordable flying for the money.
AlpineTCraft Thanks
Don't forget, I live at nearly 7k' and go up. Want good shortfield/slow flight performance. To fat for the J3/PA11
Hoping to find something before it gets to the classifieds.
Thanks all for the help

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Thanks!

I found 2 Highlanders on there. One is nearby, and I have looked at it. It is nice. Both are out of my price range.
Thanks Gary

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

I appreciate the thought.
I would say my top 3 picks right now would be a 180hp Wag Aero Sportsman 2+2, Rans s7, and a Cessna 170/180 hp. But there are others I would buy if the price were right.

I keep coming back to the Aeronca 15 Sedan. I have an idea that the light weight and the giant all metal wing will go a long way to making it an effective high D/A airplane. I'm about 1000 feet lower than you are though. They do have occasionally spar web corrosion issues and a relatively new AD on them. The TCDS is owned separately from the rest of the Aeronca line and the owner is actively supporting it. It should be more than a hundred pounds lighter than the 172 and who knows, maybe down the line it gets a Lycoming.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

I'm sure not against it, just don't know anything about it.

Another one that I would think would do well would be an old citabria or similar. Don't know all the different models. Did fly in a 160hp Citabria. Did pretty good, but I would want more power and flaps I thought a similar champ w180/flaps would be a pretty good combo??? I would prefer metal spars and ribs.

Still think experimental has some nice advantages.

Another that I have real good comments on is the Arctic Tern.

7GCBC is a citabria with flaps, and for the most part they all have wood spars, unless a factory new wing, and i think one other company has a stc for metal spars but uses old ribs and spacers. im pretty sure they came factory with 150, and nothing bigger, i could be wrong, but we have one with a one time stc for a 180. The only limiting factors are fuel or lack of, they only hold 32 gal and with a 180, is about 3 hr of fuel, Also most citabria have a high empty weight and only 1650 GW

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

This is a big learning excersice for me. The only planes I am familiar with are the c-150/170/180/182.
Little aerobatics in a decathalon and a Great lakes. Short flight in KitFox, Rans s7, J3, PA18

The best planes that I am aware of for what I want to do are the Super Cub and C-180, both too expensive for me at this time
Maules are in there too   M4's/M5's

I like the Rans s7, Highlanders, Bearhawks, Kitfox's Models 5-7(easily folding wings, another big plus) Experimental, affordable to fly, good shortfield performance

Arctic Tern is another that I have heard would be really good, but rare.

It might fit the bill for me, I am flying out of Moab -- granted doesnt have everything -- but 20k safe/clean plane leaves a lot of ability to fly and upgrade the motor/stol later. thanks for posting. I am in the same boat as Gary it seems... same planes/wants but cant afford it right now.

I do appreciate this thread.
