IMO the plane isn't worth much more than $15k. It is 2years out of annual and 600+hrs over TBO. You will have an easy $30-35k to do an engine/prop/accessory overhaul. It would be hard to get $45k out of 175 that had a 0 time engine. What do you all think?

I think that if the new EAA/AOPA proposal for a driver license medical on 180HP 4 seaters goes through, a 180HP metal tank 175 taildragger conversion will be worth more on the market than an equivalent Cessna185.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

Hey Fellas! Im a long time lurker here (this is actually my first post i believe), but in the spirit of wheeling and dealing I offered the guy with the 175 17,500 cash. Which i believe is actually a fair price and would consider the airplane for myself at that offer. Hope I helped and good luck!

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

Thanks Parker. That is the same price I was thinking.

Got to put some immediate money in this plane. If he still has it I will take a look next week. I will keep everyone posted.

Any 175/180hp drivers out there with things to look for? The 175TC site is a little lean on activity.

Yes, you are correct, but thanks. I actually saw one that I thought was pretty nice for the money on the Alaska list yesterday. Got me thinkin. But, I had a nice 180, and couldn't afford to fly it very much. Makes no sense to me. I want something I can afford to fly.

FWIW there's a Highlander on Barnstormers now. Not listed under Highlander or Just Air - had to look under E-LSA.

5 gph of car gas, not dealing with the nice folks at OK aeromed, t/o before you get to the VASI - priceless :D

Maybe you don't remember your C150TD days, maybe not as hard to board as a Cub but with no step they're not real easy to get into either. Pretty tight inside too.
The "texas" engine upgrade stc includes the 180hp but unfortunately doesn't bump the gross weight of the 1959-63 straight-tail model-- it's stuck at 1500# which with the added weight of the Lycoming makes it a single-seater.

Way to nose heavy. Met a guy that has one and he was able to get his into experimental. He moved the engine back 4 inches and increased the size of horizontal stabilizer as well as elevator. Now it can be trimmed well for slow flight. Your cheese has finally slipped off the cracker if you think it will be worth more than a 185 with same hrs and avionics.

A friend of mine has a Cessna 140 for sale. It has an O-290 with low time. Says it is in good condition and he wants $25K. Shortfielder, PM me for info if interested. This offer is for the OP first!!! Please honor this request unless he states he has no interest in it. Been burned on these sites when asking questions so he has first chance of refusal.

Heck that was three pages ago! I forgot about the PM request. :(

I doubt he has any interest in this plane but I wanted to post it for all to see as it is one of the nicest lowtime PA-12's I have seen. Click on this link and check out the PA-12. It belongs to a friend of a friend. The gentleman that is selling his C-140 knows the plane and said it is one of the nicest he has ever seen.

I don't mind, I like seeing them to! I'm back to window shopping for a bit. Gives me several more months to reevaluate what plane I should buy...again.

I use Cheez-Whiz, which has an adhesive component for the specific purpose of keeping it from falling off my cracker. Further, the crackers selected have a convoluted "relief" surface, thus adding a significant amount of mechanical bond in the shear direction.

My point was that an airplane with a 4 seat Cessna sized cabin, with the level of performance an O-360 will give it, and able to be flown similar to the Sport Pilot driver's license medical, would be a very desirable airplane for a lot of people.

Nose heaviness can be solved fairly easily. On my upcoming conversion, it is accomplished by removing 30-35 pounds of nose weight in the form of a nosewheel. The battery canbe moved rearward as well.

Re: Sold the 182/Lookin for a new(to me) plane

hi shortfield, I think a sedan. pa-11/j3, champ, taylorcraft would be something reasonable to look into. Im assuming maint/gas prices are why the 180 option just doesnt seem to work with the numbers. i say get away from the cessna. youve flown one for years and why not try something else on for size. i wish i could have a 180 but i could just never aford to fill it with gas. i can dump 50 bucks (av gas) in my tank and go bomb around all night after work its great! i also like how the older fabric planes make you work your feet more. I noticed it rolling in and out of turns the most. i meen the goal is to get into something inexpensive (to purchase and operate) that is tailwheel and new to you right? i think a sedan with the 0-300 would be a good choise because those engines are cheap to pick up cause so many swap to the 0-360's in other sedans, 170's and 172's smaller 85, 90, and 100hp conts are also fairly cheap to maintain and aquire parts for. i bet you if you get a smaller older but well maintained plane that eats up less cash under the wrench or at the fuel pump you'll find yourself in the air much more often.

heres a few if seen around town under 40 k

http://anchorage.craigslist.org/rvs/2986298699.html

both have been for sale for awhile might get a good deal

this one is a little out of range and at about tbo but could still have another 500-800 left in her if maintained well and oil readings come back good quite capable bushplane though with quite a few mods already.

have a good weekend
