Hey Gary,

This is Bob. I flew with you in Frank Church last year with Chris and Del.
I will be coming on this trip with Rich Finkle. I hope to get in a lot more flying and trips this year.
This looks like it will be a good one.

Gary, I t doesn't look like we will be able to make it. Please give our room away to someone else. If it turns out we can come, we will tent it.

OK, Just got back from Caveman Ranch

ROD SAYS PEOPLE ARE CALLING HIM AND EMAILING HIM. If you want to be part of this, it is best to contact me. I am the one keeping track of the rooms, the food, and the money.

If you are interested in the one night of dinner prepared by Rod, or the 2 mornings of breakfasts, prepared by me :) , Then you need to let me know BY THE END OF THIS MONTH, IF YOU HAVEN"T ALREADY so we know how many to plan for.

I didn't mention this before, but there is also an outdoor shooting area there, if you want to take advantage of that.

Things are looking pretty good. He is going to use one of the cave rooms as a communal bathroom/shower area. The is also an outhouse and a couple bathrooms in the lodge.

He has built a big fire pit up by the lodge.

The rooms will be bare, and without power. So bring a lantern or some light producing device if you want light in your room at night. And whatever you are comfortable sleeping on.

There is a full moon on the 28th, so we should have pretty good light outside at night.

There are a couple horse shoe pits there

Good work Gary. This nice CO spring weather is making me antsy for this trip.

Question, Is there a place with power outlets to plug in cell phones, computers, cameras etc for charging at night?

You gotta be kiddin, we go backcountry to get away from that stuff

Don't know for sure Matt. They have a small generator there, I imagine that is going from time to time, so ya can probably plug into that.

They are gonna have solar, don't know if it will be up and going by then.

No cell phone coverage on the property, but once you get in the air you can get it.

I use 12 volt chargers and charge stuff while I am flying.

Hey Gary,

We'll have 5 adults and a 2.5 year old for breakfast on Sunday morning.

Thanks again for all the planning. Can not wait to get down there.

What kind of temps can we expect that time of year?

Thanks,
Cory

My wife and I will be there Friday night as well. We'll tent it up unless someone wants to give us their cave/room! Thanks for putting this together - Caveman Ranch is a sweet place.

Shortfielder - I'll let you know on the room probably tomorrow.

I flew over Caveman Ranch today and shot a vertical photograph and labeled it. I didn't label everything, and I was a little fuzzy on the shooting area, but other than that it should be pretty accurate.

Re: Spring Utah Fly-in Pt 2

As one that lives with a solar, wind, and hydro system on a daily basis, I can tell you do NOT expect them to provide power for your electronics if they are off grid. A better long term solution for those with the need to stay "plugged in", put together your own mini off grid system, you can keep your aircraft battery fully topped off, then use the continuing excess for the needed loads.

Simple, probably tax deductible to some extant, (renewable energy credits), say you use it at home, and you can. Assuming you can plug into any existing generator borders on rude behavior in the off grid world! If they are running the operation off of a generator in that sunny location, they need a good talking to, and I'm just the guy to do it! That's like cutting butter with a chain saw, yeah it'll work but not real efficient! I was off grid for 28 years, and am now grid tied, but remember how it was with many, though individually small, unplanned for loads, it can crash the system. [-X

Solid work bean!!

From the videos I've watched, it seems most approaches come in from the south. It looks like that area just comes over the river, nice and flat.
