Re: Summer Campfire Nights

Ok then the wx looks to be getting good. This Saturday and Sunday I will ask the wife if she wants to go somewhere. I have to give the wife first shot at weekends because she works M-F.

If she says no that would be a possibility for a mini fly in at Sandy River if their schedule is open.

One week out the Weather Channel says Wednesday Thursday are 0% chance of rain and clear!! That is a go day for me. At Sandy River if their schedule is open.

Either way if anyone doesn't have to head straight to work I am into a flight to Hood River for breakfast. They have grass to land on.

We could hit Port Elsner if the wind is less than 5MPH. http://www.airnav.com/airport/75WA
I think the owner there would like to go to breakfast with us. Port Elsner is not for the faint of heart.

This would be the route:

So there you have it.

Good day...Rob

Rob your proposed adventure up above looks like fun. There's a little high pressure moving in supposedly on Saturday. This weekend would be the perfect time.

I will know tonight if the wife wants to go fly somewhere Saturday, Sunday.

If not this weekend it looks like Wednesday-Thursday might work. The Weather Channel says Wednesday night, Thursday are 10% chance of rain and partly cloudy!! That is a go day for me if the wx doesn't get any worse. At Sandy River if their schedule is open.

Re: Summer Campfire Nights

Rob,
Keep your eye out for a Monday night/Tuesday weather window. When weather permits, I will be flying up Monday evenings to race bicycles at PIR and it would be great to camp out at Sandy or somewhere similiar on Monday night.

Hi Brent, it doesn't look good for camping Mon or Tue. It could change but I wouldn't bet on it. If you don't want to buy a motel you are always welcome to use the shop apartment. If you need ground transport let me know. Come to Troutdale and I'll have the Jeep 4U.

Bonanza's have to pay $50.00 to land. Just pay me

You are more than welcome to fly into Fantasy Field (FA99) anytime you like. We have plenty of grass to park and play on. I'll throw a pot of coffee on if you're cold, or bring out a tray of icey cold beverages. We love having company, and you can camp out over night or the weekend if you wish.

Hi Terry, way cool. Looks like July now, maybe sneak one in camp fire in June. I really want to come land your strip and bs with you again. I'll make it happen. Hows the 172 running? Nate is loving the Stinson!

Rob, Just curious how you got the sectional with custom route overlayed? is there a program that allows you to do this easily? That is way too cool!

So there you have it.

Hey low, I run the evil FlightPrep software. After I build my route I use the windows7 sniping tool. Then upload the pic to my google picasa online account. Then post the pic here. Takes 1 min to build the route. 1 min to save and get it to picasa online.

Re: Summer Campfire Nights

Well I think it is time to do this. Monday night July 18th at Sandy River 03S

Paul: anything on the schedule conflict for this date?

I'll be working some hay.

I'll be ready to meet at Sandy River late afternoon. Maybe go to a couple close bye grass strips for fun. Later cook some dinner, or order a pizza. Then sit by the camp fire and have a adult beverage. Sleep under the wing. Tuesday morning coffee. If you got to get straight to work, do it. I have time to go to breakfast. Some of our good options are Mulino, Independence, Salem, or Hood River. I think Hood River would be the prettiest flight in the morning. They have grass too.

Sandy River has showers too!

Re: Summer Campfire Nights

Definitely a go for me!
Would love to "bag" :) some strips while were at it.
Most in that area I haven't been to.
There is a 900ft strip in Gaston I would like to do one of these days, a little BSing there could maybe open up another 3 with in a few miles.
A deck of cards and a jar of change might be fun.
