UPDATED 8/31 Sierra / Nor Cal fly in Sat 3rd and Sunday 4th

Anyone around this weekend feel like burning some gas? Our circuit in the Tahoe area continues to expand. Today we added several new ones to the golf course making it over 30 holes now to the North. To the south we have just as many if not more.

Where is Bumper or OntheGas? All of you just off the hill in the foothills should rally up. Weather is going to be good. Emsfly, Avidflyer, Gump?? We have a large bunch of BCP'ers in these parts. Lets do some flying!!

We also have a very cold keg of beer waiting to be tapped in the hanger. Please dont let Lowrider and I drink alone. Come pay us a visit. Its really good fun flying with all sorts of places for all levels of experience. We can camp at one of the ranches (with the keg of beer) or camp in the hanger. We have couches and beds.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

I'd love to head up Kevin but I'm leaving for Osh Kosh monday and I don't think the chickie would be amused if I burned a day this weekend doing more flying. Hope to have my new 180 out here by september or so, you can bet I'll be up your way once i get it home.

I'll be flying overhead tomorrow on my way to OSH. Don't have time to stop for a beer though. Hopefully you'll still be making the same offer later in the year and us flatlanders are invited.

Oh I'm still here, but my dance card has been full of late. I've been helping out towing gliders at SoaringNV (Minden, NV) as the've been really busy since the closure of Soar Minden. Also designing and fabricating some tow reels for their Pawnees so they don't have to drag the tow rope behind 'em - - and I thought I was going to relax when I retired.

How long is the strip at the ranch? Would I have any problems with the 170? Stacey and I might be able to fly over there this weekend.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Overflying Carson today I heard a Husky in the pattern. Turns out it was Onthegas (Roger). Like Bumper, sounds like he has been busy. Flew over your house today Gump after landing on that big hill to the east... :D

Rob- there are a lot of places you could land your plane for certain. Some not, but most yes! would bet you have at very least 10-15 differnt options on our north circuit and a whole lot more to the south as it is lower in elevation.

We depart Truckee most mornings around 8am (to be neigborlly).

Meeting Dlhanst in Carson in the am (fri) tomorrow around 8 for breakfast.

Saturday or Sunday we will be burning fuel by 8. Come up and play.

Vick- Have you got a 180 picked out yet? There are 2 on Barnstormers now that look good. The 2 on page 4.

Gonna do a Desert Lobster run down to Mina Sat or Sun. And I imagine chase a coyote or two on the way if you guys are up and running.

Would love to Join Kev, but gotta go out of town for a birthday party. August is viturally shot for me weekend wise, so might have to take a rain check until Sept (which might let it cool down some :)

Have fun!

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

I can see our entire Northern circuit in that photo! Great pic Vick! What AGL is that taken? Obviously your flying the ultimate taildragger in the pic.

For those interested in joining us tomorrow, we will be departing KTRK around 8am headed to the north circuit / Seirraville / Nevino area. Will be on the local freq. 122.8. We do have a company channel but thats top secret until we see ya. We monitor both.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Well, we had a fun morning! Hit 7 or 8 different strips on our circuit to the North this AM, starting with the back nine first. Going long and working our way back to KTRK is generally best. Rob and his wife, Lowrider and I departed KTRK at 8am. Winds were light and the morning could not have been better for flying.

Just off KTRK we counted 19 hot air ballons. Makes you want to be a Red Bull Pylon pilot. Beautiful sight!
Image

Our first stop is one of our favorites as far as the surface goes, Chillkoot Ranch. Fine sand that feels like down feathers. Very smooth and soft
Image
Image
Image

Then continuing north we hit Secret Valley. A perfect narrow road with a deep ditch on both sides. You can actually make this count as two LZ's as you can land N/S and then depart into a left base for the E/W landing. Both are fun.
Image
Image

We hit another couple from here and then turned the corner for a few on what is really the front nine, just after a quick fuel stop.
Image

This is what we call "The Ranch". It was one of our first LZ's to be established on our circuit. The grass can be deep here. We did mow it a few weeks back but you could never tell.
Image

Next stop, Totem Pole #2.
Image
Image
Image
Image

And then, Totem Pole #1...This one can get people as it is very tight and one way in only. One of our fun ones in the low lands. Elevation 5600' I believe.
Image
Image
Image

And then a 10 minute flight back to KTRK for lunch.
Image
Image

Here is one photo of an LZ on our South circuit. Next time...but this one needs to be done at 6am due to its elevation of 9,000'. This one will make you cry and wonder why....The take off is like a hang glider departure. Think Mile High x 2 with a huge roll over that sends you into space. It keeps me up at night just thinking about it!!
Image

Great day today! Thanks for rallying Rob and Stacy! Was great sharing our golf course with you!
